Hi all. Just a genuine question for my own personal interest, so please don't bite my head off. There has been a bit of commotion from time to time about people using the term Man U. Some suggesting it's derogatory or that only United fans can use it. For that matter I think the name United is also include in that. Can you lot tell me what this is about, if there is anything about it at all? Cheers lads.

Actual United fans just don't refer to us as Man U.

So, if you get someone claiming to be one and calling us Man U they're just some plastic bandwaggoneer. Some of the connections to Munich songs etc. are a bit spurious really, I just personaly think it's a term used by halfwits.

Ray Wilkins always calls Utd " Man U"
You would think as a former player he would know the connotation

This. It also smacks of crass text speak to me, used by the same people who write "c u l8r" and other such ****e. Probably explains why Wilkins uses it.

It doesn't particularly offend me, but I can understand why some people do take offence given the previous abusive connections.

I don't find it offensive in terms of how others make it out to be.

I only really find it offensive when used by United fans.

Yeah, that's exactly it. Any United 'fan' who refers to us as Man U is an impostor, end of.

Funny thing is, I happen to come across this pic of London's Only EC Winners on the internets.

I don't understand why Chelsea wums seem to have such an obsession with us.

Go and bicker with your geographical rivals Fulham and QPR, or your league rivals Arsenal, Spurs, Everton or West Brom.

Your not our rivals geographically or in the league, so I fail to see why your so obsessed with us
