Loads of top european sides have been linked with AOC and a price of £10,000,000 has been bantered about but what is he worth to us.
Do we need £10 million. Not as much as we did in the recent past.
Who could we buy to replace him? No £10 million player would sign for a league 1 team. Could we buy 5 £2 million players? If so, who?
So, how much is Oxo worth to us?
    £20 million?
    £50 million?
Should we sell him? Keep him? Do an Arsenal and make a profit and win nothing? Do a Man City and try to buy success?
I know what I want but what do you think and what might AOC's advisers be saying?

If we go up (attention on the IF) then he'll be worth £12 million.

I think he'll be off in the summer for £10 million and he'll get loaned back to us for the season.

His Dad is his agent I believe and said in January that he thought Alex should move on for his development so he'll be getting his advice from there.

His dad is his agent yeah, and he's a Chelsea fan so although saying he does love the Saints, he will be less worried about leaving as he didn't grow up supporting us. I think he is destined to go in the summer whether we are promoted or not, only difference is, is that if we stay in league 1, we will get no more than 10 million, I think we should take that, regardless of the league were in. Buy four £2million players and leave the other £2million for development/wages etc, that would be possible in the championship but would four quality players join us in league one?

That's my point SGMI. Why would £2 million players join a league 1 team? If we were in the championship and looked like a promotion side....

Guys do you really think he is worth £10million? Is that not just media hype that figure? What team in their right mind is going to fork that kind of money out on an otherwise untried of 17 year old......It just ain't going to happen is it? Also with the new rules coming in, in regards to club spending, who in their right mind is going to spend 10 million, 2/3 of their allocated budget, on someone like him? That doesn't mean I don't rate the lad because I do, but not for the money that has been bandied about is all. The trouble is any other young prospect that comes through the academy is therefore going to be given the same price tag as he, otherwise they are going to look a little more stupid than they are at the moment, (the media) aren't they?

In his position, I'd only move on the proviso that I'd be loaned out to someone who would offer me first team football, whether its back here or elsewhere. £10m is the price and no team that can pay that much for a 17 year old in league 1 will put him straight in their first team.

If we get promoted, I could see him staying.

Beddytare: Fair point, but, are you forgetting Walcott, went for £12million and he was fairly untried? Chamberlain in my mind is better than what Walcott was, albeit at a lower level, however he has more potential and quality I believe. I do think Chambo leaving in the summer is inevitable though, due to the season he has had.

Yes to be fair you are right. He had been blooded at a higher level and was a regular including on the international scene, under 18, 19 and 21.
Whether he is not as good or is better is conjecture at this point simply because Chamberlain is really untried on a regular basis at a higher level. Walcott to a point had already earned most of his spurs. Also remember his fee was only £5 million with add ons bringing up to the 12 million. Although in the end we did not get that for him as we had to renegotiate his sale and he went for considerably less than £12 million in the end.

With Nani injured , whats the likely-hood of Daily Mail re-printing Manchester United interest in Alex Chamberlain... <laugh>

I can see him staying if we go up. Maybe it's just mindless optimism, but surely a season at least in the Championship would give him great experience even if he then moves to a Premiership team.

If we stay in League One, he's gone. For probably less that £10m. And you could say that about a lot of our good players

Well he certainly won't be getting regular Premier League football next year, so a season in the Championship would be best for his development. The wisest choice he could make is to stay at Saints, and I'm not just saying that because I want him to stay.

I think there will be another Chamberlain to come along one day.Look at the talent that we have sold in the past and at the time we have thought that it was the end of the world as we know it.
He will go they always do,another will be round the corner for us to enjoy unntil the big boys come along.
If he or his dad think moving from us is in his best interests then go.He should have joined one of them when he was 12 or whatever he was when he joined us.
Saints have made him what he is,if he/dad thinks he will get better playing in someone elses reserves then so be it.
Walcott thought the same and in my opinion he aint no better than when he played for us.

Walcott has not fulfilled the potential he showed with us. if he had gone to Arsenal, but then been loaned back to us for a season his development would have been better served. Alex should take heed from theo and Mr Surman and stay with us for another 2 years.

Im not actually sure whether it benefits the players to leave early. Look at oxlade chamberlain he is currently one of our best players and as such is training with mainly players at or slightly below his current level. Whereas if he were to join a club such as Man Utd he would be training with players such as Giggs, Rooney and Nani. I would think the amount he would learn from purely being in the same environment as Ryan Giggs would make a huge difference to his level of playing ability. Yes reserve matches arent the same level as a league 1 game but by training with some of the best I think he would learn a lot more which he couldnt gain from being at Saints. Still I would personally love to see him stay at St.Marys!

We have a couple of hyphenated players getting close Jordace Holder-Spooner and James Ward-Prowse could be the next stars.
