No doubt Poyet signing a longer contract was the best bit of business done all summer, but he speaks of telling players his vision for the club in he future.. How do you think he sold the club, in order to attract the new player? Poyet told the Echo: âNo doubt things are a little bit more clear with what I wanted to create and the players I wanted to bring. âI was able to say to Jack Rodwell that I wanted him to join us because weâre trying to do things in a certain way over the next six months to a year. âLook at someone like Bucker (Will Buckley). I know him and he knows me and what I want from him. âHe could play for another manager, no doubt. âBut he knows exactly what is going to happen here. âThose things give you a bit of help in competing for players. âWeâve been able to tell these players what weâre hoping to achieve in the next two years.â Unlike predecessor Paolo Di Canio, Poyet has hand-picked the new players at the Stadium of Light too. Six of the nine incoming players - Rodwell, Buckley, Billy Jones, Costel Pantilimon, Jordi Gomez and Santiago Vergini - were all on Poyetâs first-choice list of targets. Patrick van Aanholt and Alvarez were both attractive alternative options to former loanees Marcos Alonso and Fabio Borini, while Poyet was also keen to sign fellow Uruguayan Coates rather than other defenders who were available on the loan market. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...on-after-signing-contract-extension-1-6829865
How do they know the bold bit? Di Canio said he had full say on who we signed - until he was sacked when he said the players weren't his choice? DO you believe him either time - I don't know what to believe!! Anyhow - I like what I'm hearing from Gus and I also like what I've seen. Would just like to get a first win under our belt
He either lying or had too much confidence in his recruitment team to deliver the players to his specifications. Take our free agent signings, they were brought in within a week off Valentino Angeloni arriving as chief scout. When you look at the range of our signings under Di Fanti, I think it was clear as day It was entirely Di Fanti working from Angeloni's portfolio. What's the point of shelling out thousands, probably millions to bring in a sort after chief scout and a DoF only to not use either and let the manager do everything, it doesn't make sense and it didn't happen.
