My summer is filled up with DIY with the usual week at the coast with the family - and this weekend a second time round the Wolf Run at Stanford Hall, Leicestershire (that's me on the right last year!)

    What's everyone else up to?

It's our winter so just had a warm holiday (China tour) and now contemplating late nights and early mornings watching Euros. Oh and there's a bit of rugby in ANZ for the next few weeks - taking the family to 2nd test next Saturday in Melbourne.

Singapore business trip in late July and that's 3 weeks of winter avoided.

Winter in Melbourne is cold, but not British cold. Currently enjoying the Queens Birthday long weekend holiday on the Mornington Peninsula- hour south of city - at the winter wine festival. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay heaven. (Sorry Beth, having too much alcohol related fun - again)

No more overseas leisure trips til October, waiting for the fixtures to be released and hoping to get to a few matches while back in the UK. See you in the c&s and upper loft if the fixture gods are with me.

I'm off to the States and Canada for the majority of August. Washington DC, New York and Toronto, so I'll miss the first few games of the season.

For the next week or so, I have a guest - a crow. Found him this morning whilst walking with my dog. He's got an injured wing. Just been to the vet, who says the wing will be ok within about a week, so he (jake, ref shawshank) will relax in the shed, eat cat food, and I'll release him once he can fly again.

The least you should expect is a thank you note. Sad decline of manners in the bee community.

So jealous Woody, my life long ambition is to befriend a crow....we have to put up withthem smashing snails to death on our flat roof at 5am in the morning

The last month we have had two live in birds, both freal pigeons...one cat mauled pidgen who left us after a month....but still stalks around our garden as though it owns it.....and a baby pigeon who left us this weekend....and we have not seen her again.

Love looking after wild birds, such a sense of achievement when they fly the coop

When I was a kid, there was always a pidgeon in the shed that I'd attempted to rescue. I should have been a vet, not a bloody electrician. Agree, it's an amazing feeling when you can help an animal that otherwise would probably not have made it.

Young jake was hopping around on the green this morning, squawking constantly, but obviously not able to fly. I couldn't walk away. Spent about half an hour following him slowly, trying not to stress him overly. Eventually, he crossed the road and went into a front garden. When he was by the front porch, I was able to pick him up. As we walked home, a couple of other crows were swooping and squawking, I was half expecting to be set upon. Been to the vet now (cute, Irish), she said they could look after him, but they are not bird experts. As I said above, she reckoned he'll be good to fly in a week or so, hollow bones repair fast apparently. So he's in the shed now, I've fed him cat food, which he's happy to eat and water from a pipette. Fingers crossed, we'll experience the joy of seeing him fly soon. image.jpg
