I came back on Saturday from a few days away and when I read this Forum I couldn't believe my eyes - a mixture of doom and gloom and hell fire and damnation!! Sack the Manager - is that the same Manager who took us on a 10 match unbeaten run a short while ago? Is that the same line of thought that operated when Blackburn sacked Allerdyce because they were only 14th in the Premiership at the time? Where are they now after 5 further sackings? The same line of thought that has produced the huge upturn in fortunes for Reading following their sacking of McDermott? We are doomed to go down some say - perhaps we deserve to if we lose to Reading, Fulham and Villa at Home! Expand your memories my friends. Where were we when Lambert came? Up to our eyes in **** and still sinking fast! Where were we when Lambert left? He left because his squad had over performed and the only way after that was down. Most pundits and many of our own fans had us favourites for the drop. I had a substantial bet pre-season on us going down - a bet I would like to lose - and we are still at better odds to avoid the drop than we were then. I feared that we would be down by Easter but in fact we are 14th in the table, 4 points above the drop zone, already out of the likely reach of the bottom 2 and with 3 winable home games to come. Even if the worst happens it will only be what many feared at the beginning of the season, we have given them a good run for their money, we will be debt free, one relegation will be in line with the Business plan, we will have a decent squad to rebuild, we will have the parachute money and Hughton can then get to work building his own team. Do I like some of the Football I have seen this year? No! Do I like the way we have fallen back and defended? No but I do feel it has been out of necessity rather than choice. Do I think we will stay up? Don't know. Will I blame Hughton if they go down? No! He has, in my opinion, performed a minor miracle keeping us out of the bottom 3 for as long as he has. It won't be the end of the world if we go down and whatever happens Hughton has to be given at least next season to sort it out. Fortunately I don't believe our Board go in for short termism which is just as well as some of the comments I heard at Carrow Road on Saturday were an absolute disgrace. I'm sorry but some people need to get a grip and realise the size of the Club we support and where we have just come from.
tbh I gave up at the bit I have highlighted - can't say I have seen anyone saying that so assume the rest of it wasn't worth going in to.
Thai that's not fair - there have been one or two calls, though admittedly hardly widespread. I don't think you should respond if you haven't read the whole post.
Careful Thai, I dared to respond to a post that I disagreed with in a similar fashion last week and ended up being called "a troll"
I have seen a few saying he ought to go at the end of the season if there is no improvement but none saying outright to sack him, which is somewhat different. That is why I dismissed it, it was not accurate reporting as far as I could make out and lost any credibility from the off - sorry if that offends but it's how I see it
Correct. You disagreed without reading my post, failed to explain yourself and then when you realised you didn't have a leg to stand on you resorted to trolling pathetically and, like a child, still don't seem to be able to let go. Grow the hell up.
I'm guessing that post from Rob is in someway yet another pop me, thankfully his royal smugness is the sole member of my ignore list so I can't hear a thing - lovely old job
Inaccurate, or misinterpreted. See above for explanation. If we lose them all and other teams get enough points then yes we are doomed and deserved as we were not good enough over the season No argument Not so sure about that I have not and will not be calling for any sacking. He needs a chance to recruit in the summer, then I will be watching and possibly counting the days if nothing changes. I don't fully agree, we had a sublime chance in December of avoiding any possible threat of relegation. Not a criticism directly aimed at you but the line " where we have just come from" has got be stopped at some point. We all know where we were, and where we are now but let's not revert back every season to saying remember when we were in L1 some years ago.
In fairness Thai I did not say ' sack the Manager immediately ' I was referring to a thread where some people were suggesting Hughton had to go in the near future whether we stayed up or not, My point, as expanded on later in the post, was that whatever happened he should not be judged until at least the end of next season. I accept that I am one of those people who think that to stay in the Premiership is, in itself, an achievement for a Club of our size and that relegation is a certainty whether it be this year, next year or the year after. Perhaps having that mindset makes it easier to accept the ' downs ' as well as the ' ups '
This is what really annoys me most and is generally (with respect), re-iterated by older supporters of NCFC who were standing on the terraces in the 50's and 60's. Our club has come from humble beginnings and we should never forget that, however our club has also grown over the years and we were an established top flight club in the 70's through to the early 90's spending only three seasons outside of the top division. We are currently the 62nd best supported club in Europe and if we had a bigger stadium it would no doubt be a bit higher. Now don't get me wrong, we will probably never be able to compete with the likes of Manure, Citeh et al, but come on let's not put ourselves down. A club of our size and stature has every right to be competing in the Premier League (we were founder members don't forget), so please let's forget this 'little old Norwich' tag because it simply is not true. http://stadiumdb.com/news/2012/09/10_ranking_europes_top_attendances_2012_edition There are 'Ultra' clubs i.e Barca, Real Madrid, Man United, Bayern etc., 'Super' clubs, if you like, i.e Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and then there are 'Big' clubs and Norwich City IMO are one of these. WE ARE NO LONGER A SMALL CLUB !
Fair point. Hopefully if we stay up for a couple of seasons we will have the funds to increase capacity and break into the European top 50! The size of Norwich as a club is open to debate. In my opinion we are either a small Premier League club (by any stats you care to use we are in the smallest 1/3rd of the PL and probably will have been at any stage we have been here) or a bigger than average English club. Depends on whether you see us being 14th in the PL as "blimey, aren't we doing well" or "good platform but we can go on to the top 10 next season". I think it is fair to say that as a club we are currently punching above our weight based on our squad if not our gates which I expect probably are in the top 20 in England(?) but if we can stay up for a couple of seasons and improve the squad and the stadium then 14th will be below par.
I never find the downs acceptable (in as much as they ALWAYS hurt a lot) but I know they are going to happen at some point in time because historically that is what has happened and will, in all probability, continue to happen. At the same time that is not to say we can hang around for a decade or more because I believe we can with the right team (top to bottom, not just on the pitch). I have always considered NCFC as a bit too good for the Championship (Div 2) but never quite good enough for the PL (Div 1) thanks to the yo-yo years since the first time we made the top flight but would love to see us get firmly established similar to what Coventry City achieved without the eventually cock up that they made a few years back.
Munky, what is the point of having Rob on your ignore list if you're going to respond to everything he says? All you're doing is keeping the turmoil rumbling on, surely you can accept that we all know your views on the matter without the need for you to keep repeating it? I'm not taking sides on this issue, I can see merits for both sides of the argument, please, can we put this to bed now?
Initially I didn't mention him directly and I've not responded to anything he says as I haven't been able to read anything that he has posted since ignoring him - I thought that wuold have been obvious? I merely assumed he had said something about me (which I guess he must have done as you're now getting involved for some reason) and I simply highlighted that if so he's wasting his time because I have chosen not to read it. I have noticed that he has posted lots over the past few days, I make one comment and apparently I'm "responding to everything he says"???? Oh, and you're "not taking sides" - are you sure???? Been running to teacher again because I've been so "obnoxious" and "horrible" to him is he? Ah, bless him Seriously, some people need to grow a pair
Fair enough, admittedly I did mention him in the second bit - but had he not just had a pop at me before I posted that? I was only assuming he had, and if not and I was mistaken then of course I apologise unreservedly and will now keep my mouth shut and just carry on to ignoring him so he can continue to call me all the names under the sun as and when he wishes, just like he did last week because according to you that's fine, unlike those deadly s that are just so hurtful and damaging to a fully grown man. Happy to know where I stand, thanks
Though he won't read it, I would like to put on record that I have already apologised for swearing at Munky, but that I apologise once again and to anyone else that was offended.
Dave you really need to stay out of these things. You have a terrible (which yourself have admitted ) habit of making things worse at times when you interfere, just leave people to sort themselves out.
