OK so there is a lot of criticism of PJ at the moment. My question is this: if you were in the hotseat then in terms of picking the side and setting them out what would you do differently? Personally I think there are too many players who think they're guaranteed a shirt. Those players are Edwards, Leadbitter and Chopra. I think we need stability but we also need to be giving everyone in the squad (O'Connor, Peters, Hyam, Priskin) a chance to come in and make a claim. I dont want to hear anymore from PJ about how well such and such player is doing in training because frankly, when they're all cosy having a laugh at Playford Road it doesn't count for toffee. We need players who will be counted when they step over that white line. I think there's no doubt we have a stronger squad on paper than four months ago but they aren't fighting for it. Formation-wise it's a total ****ing shambles at the moment and that's the biggest problem. Kennedy or Hyam NEED to come in to protect the defence. With the players we have we need to be playing wide men and I'm sorry, but that only leaves room for one of Bullard, Andrews, Bowyer and Leadbitter. Keep Andrews in who's done himself proud so far and drop the other three. That sends a big fat message to everyone that it's not about individuals. The defence will take time to gel - fair enough on Sonko / Collins or the other three CBs. Cresswell's a bright kid. Get a proper right back in on loan even if it's a bloody League One reserve!!! That just leaves up front. Play about with all the options. Get the five or six of them all in together and tell them you're going to keep swapping it around and bringing people off the bench until you find a partnership that regularly finds the net. If someone comes on as sub and scores they start the next one ahead of dingbat who hasn't scored in four or five starts! Get JET in there behind Scotland and drop the other two - they might hit it off like a house on fire! If it doesn't work bring Priskin on. Give Peters a game up front! Seriously, where is the imagination?! It doesn't matter if you try things and it doesn't work, it only matters if you stick with the same crap that's not doing the business! I don't expect with this many new players to hit it off straight away but we'll never find the formula if we keep giving the shirt to underperformers!
Yorkie I am starting to realise that Jewell hasn't got a scooby doo! You can't rebuild a team with old age pensioners whoa have no pace and more importantly no desire. Today we were totally unbalanced because Jewell's starting line up was just doomed to failure in the first place. If we lose to Coventry at home next week I think it could well be the beginning of the end!
I think we've got good players. There is room for a Bullard or an Andrews or a Bowyer - but not all three. And certainly no room for Cantplayforshitbitter anywhere on the team bus.
I agree so why does he make Leadbitter Captain and then subs him 2 games in a row! It proves that he hasn't got a ****ing clue!
Don t all **** the bed yet boys, Blackpool are pretty handy.................. You are spot on about recruiting old players though Warky.....
Loach Lowton Pearce St ledger Cresswell Carson Bullard Haroun Treacy Austin Chopra Thats what i would have done different!!
All well and good being clever after the event Spanish - but where is your realistic answer to the question? Keep spouting on about how bad everything is, and I am not inclined to disagree, but why don't you tell us you solution? By the way, the Bullard in your dream team - is that the one who you referred to in your other post when you supported the quote of a budgie that quoted "You lot need young hungry blood to come in, not Ellington Bullard etc....." Glad to see SN23 has so much interest in our team - shame Spanish that you now turn to him for inspiration and advice on how Town should run. Suppose yellow does go better with that tan than blue.
In answer to your question Hamps, and without phoning a friend, the basic problems remain. At the back - we do need a real right back - and fast. I am optimistic that our CB issue may have been resolved but we will have to wait and see. Cresswell at left back is ok and could be very good in a relatively short period. In midfield - I'd drop Leadtwat like a stone immediately. Carson or Edwards on the right side, Bullard and Andrews in the middle and Kennedy / Martin on the left (left side still being a potential weakness imo). Chopra and Murphy up front

Rushmere Keep spouting on about how bad everything is, and I am not inclined to disagree, but why don't you tell us you solution? Stick by a certain formation/team and don't keep changing it!!
Would agree - however, 1) we haven't yet had the chance and 2) the formation / team needs to be the right one and, currently, it remains weak in areas that have been so for some time 3) if we do keep the same team then blind loyalty to players with 'names' / history remains an issue. If we could sort the bits that most agree need sorting (right back, Leadtwat, etc) then, and only then, would PJ find value in keeping it consistent.
" Get a proper right back in on loan even if it's a bloody League One reserve!!! " I actually think Edwards is doing a cracking job at RB. Did you go to Blackpool ? He was our best threat all game, and thats from Rb...!
The biggest issue I have is our managers always seem to have a formation and a set off players that they want but the two dont fit together. They also bring in their 'favourite' players who have suited them well in the past but dont seem to care whether we are already sorted in their positions. Surely as a manager you look at the squad you have and work out how to fit them into a team, think about what is missing and go from there. Those not wanted you transfer list. Obviously you want two or 3 formations and idea's to allow for tighter, easier matches etc etc. Hyam, O'connor, Smith & Peters would all be in my first team squad. You realistally want two players for each position with 3 keepers so a 23 man squad and no more and I just cant name them with our current set up.
whats happened to bowyer yorkie? have the legs gone? i thought he would have been a decent signing for you
I'm not sure how many games you have been watching! Crap tactics from Jewell and not Edwards fault I know. Even watching them against Cambridge Edwards was exposed far too often down that flank and he was constantly caught out of position. He is NOT a right back certainly not in the Championship at any rate. Jewell should deploy Ingar at Right Back allowing Edwards to push further up the pitch where he can do more good in supporting our attack. Kennedy should be the left back allowing Cresswell to do the same on the left hand side giving us a more balanced shape. NOT I Repeat NOT starting with 4 Centre Midfielders! I mean **** me this isnot rocket science!
I have to say he lacks a little know how and doesn't have great positional sense but I've been more impressed with im at RB than I have been with him on the wing. I think if we get the CB pairing sorted and are fairly solid he'll be ok as long as he has a winger infront of him willing to track back. The problem since Walters hasn't been playing on the right wing is that whoever the RB has been they have been often exposed due to the lack of cover.
