As above, just interested to know whether you guys consider RDM a candidate for the permanent role and what kind of finish to the season would convince you that he was the right man for the job?
Robbie's doing a great job as stand in, but I cant possibly see him being retained as a permanent fixture, short of winning the CL, FAcup and qualify in the top 4 of the PL....and that aint gonna happen ,I'm sorry to say!
I would have him there to be honest, results and performances are ok, could be better, and I like the fact that we have an old boys 1 and 2 with him and Newton Also...he won't cost millions to sign or millions in salary
Disagree. If and big if....we won the C.L I am certain Roman would keep him on. For me, a good showing in the run in, C.L semi at least and the fa cup would probably be enough to convince me to give him a go. As it stands, Napoli game aside, we still haven't done that well though performances have at least improved a bit.
Not sure what it would take, but would have thought his best bet is the CL run and how the team gels as well...if they don't unite behind him he hasn't got a chance. On the performances, that pretty much sums it up...once we came up against City and Spurs we got found out, but to be honest after this season I didn't expect too much more
Would love Robbie and Eddie to do well and stay on. like SW6 said, good to have two old boys who have strong ties with the club
I'm surprised some aren't giving RDM a shout. If you didn't get Mourinho I'd have thought he could play his way into the job permanently. Either 4th, the FA Cup or a CL final would be a great achievement given how little time he's had and worthy of a longer chance, providing they aren't too far off the other two achievements.
I don't disagree but from where we were under AVB, the only way was up. Ultimately we have done better but Napoli aside, we have beaten stoke at home, 2 championship sides and failed to beat City and Spurs, pretty much costing us top 4. It's OK but hardly setting the world alight. I think most of us would like to reserve judgement until the end of the season and I would think a cup would be the bare minimum for RDM to be allowed to stay on. That said if we don't get one of the big names like Jose or Pep, we might as well let RDM have a full season rather than bring in say a Blanc.
I'm not even sure Robbie would get the job if we won the Champions League. Would Avram have been kept on if JT hadn't slipped in Moscow? I have my doubts. It pains me to say it, but I'm not sure the players have any more respect for Robbie than they did for AVB. He's being tolerated because it's only a short term appointment, but they didn't like him when he was AVB's assistant and I don't see how he can win them round in the short time he has. If I'm being brutally honest, I also don't think he's the man to oversee the massive overhaul we clearly need over the next 2-3 years.
Robbie has done two things none of our last 3 managers could do. He's shown everyone that the old guard CANNOT play more than 1 GOOD game a week. He has believed in , and got significantly improved performances from Kalou, Luiz, Cahill, Torres, Bertrand, Cech, Cole (gulp), Ferriera and Ramires. And, as a bonus, along with EN, has shown a very good level of tactical knowledge. Man City performance was very good, Spurs less so, but we had 3 big games in a short period of time. I would have Robbie over Blanc in a heartbeat. Robbie is doing the business under great pressure and out of the shambles we made for ourselves, Blanc is just another big name, risky, unproven piece of Abramovich lunacy.
I know b*gger all about Blanc, apart from the fact he manages France! Thats a reasonable qualification to step into our vacancy, but how do we make a choice between him and Robbie? Robbie knows CFC like the back of his hand, which is important, but is this Blanc bloke another "Special One" mark 2?? RA seems to be putting loadsamoney on the table for him! Is he about to make another big mistake?
I know he has no experience, just like JT ,but I'd be open to giving Ballack a shot if he fancied it. RA won't go near a novice again though.Shame,I think Ballack ticks a lot of the boxes to manage at the highest level.
Agree with all you say CP except the bit about the game against City, I thought we were absolutely woeful, couldn't string two passes together and City could've scored a hatful.
Did well with Bordeaux, took them on to win the league...also hasn't lost a match in charge with France...apparently... So...he has managed at club level recently, and can handle big egos of the best players in their international set up, and has a good track record... Not bad really. Oh, and Fergie rates him as well
I'd go with RDM. Knows the club really well. Seems switched on tactically as well. He has to be given licence to clear the decks and do things his way though.
