There are speculations that RVP is leaving (daaa) and also that Modric is leaving for RM. Modric - the heart beat of Spurs. The only purchase so far (as I am aware) is Sigurdsson RVP - the finisher for Arsenal. Replacements: Podolski, Giroud Which loss will have the biggest impact? (wanted to post on Arsenal and Spurs forum bit not sure if that is possible)
Based on last season - RVP. But based on this summer's activity - very even (who will Spurs sign? Will Giroud work out? Will Podolski?). Ask again at Christmas!
The interesting thing is that I am less worried about Podolski fitting in than I would be of RVP staying fit and repeating last year. I read somewhere that Podolski's goals for Germany would make him the 3rd top scorer all-time for England. This guy isn't a fresh-faced prospect, he is the real deal. For me, he is an upgrade on RvP. For us to get Giroud as plan B as well, really is icing on the cake. I think Spurs are potentially in a mess this year. Modrc or no Modric, their defence looks decidedly dodgy. Vertonghen is coming in as the big hero, but if he gets injured, or takes time to settle or has any kind of problem, then Spurs are screwed.
Before summer trading I would have said us but Now I would say spurs but honestly an initial estimate should be done on 1st september when all trading is done.
Currently it would be spurs in trouble, Poldi and Giroud are more than adequate replacements, maybe not RvP's level, but very useful. Spurs will have sigurdsson, who's talented, but i don't know if he's capable of carrying a team with no strikers.
Modric without doubt. RVPs freak season was invaluable but we've already bought cover and more, not sure Tottenham have strengthened and if Modric goes as everyone seems to expect the price tag of any replacement will go through the roof and they could end up spending £20m on par players...
Hasn't he scored twice in the last year or something for Germany? At the Euros he broke a crazy dry spell for sure. He's only done well domestically at Koln. Saying that, he's reaching his peak and will want to impress in England - so he should be efficient even if he isn't brilliant (which he could be). I don't know about Giroud - seems like a slightly better Chamakh to me (but I haven't seen much since he signed).
Definitely Modric, if he leaves. We got three players to cover the loss of van Persie, which will make us more flexible and less predictable. Cazorla is one of the most creative players around, Podolski is an excellent finisher with a lethal left foot and great pace and Giroud seems to be a complete striker. People might compare him to Chamakh because he's from Ligue 1, but he is a complete different player. Chamakh's biggest asset is his aerial threat, wheras Giroud is excellent with his feet. Out of his 21 league goals he only scored a single goal with his head + assisted another 13. That is an excellent return at club like Montpellier in a league where most teams play ultra defensive football. Spurs have bought Sirgudsson, but he is a different player to Modric. Not the sort of playmaker who pulls the strings in midfield and dictates the pace of the game. Have seen nothing special from him at Hoffenheim or Swansea, except the odd fantastic long range goal. But that's it.
Modric. RVP would be a loss - especially if he went to United. However I feel you guys would still score plenty of goal and do tend to replace big players fairly easily. Podolski is a good signing too. I don't see Spurs replacing Modric if he leaves. In order to kick on they need him, without him I see them slacking off the pack.
Here is the spurs response: http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...gest-lose-for-the-teams-RVP-or-Modric-leaving
Well do continue. EDIT: I see a different poster has, after your response. What happened to Chamakh? He had a decent start didn't he?
