I am going to go on record here today stating the following. 1. Suarez will most likely play tonight. 2. Wigan is an away game so it is very highly likely that wigan players and fans will go out of their way to wind him up and baiscally do what the Fa seem to take evra's word that he did. What will the FA do when Sky have to turn thier mikes off tonight then? Will Sky have to apologise to all the families watching like they did when a certain someone swore into a camera? Are wigan better than that? Wil lthe FA merely brush it under the carpet even is suarez makes a complaint? Would he make a complaint?
If you were playing away to someone like us or Tottenham then yes he would get a lot of stick and you would be able to here it on the TV. But you won't be able to hear a thing from Wigan fans...so there is no worry there!
Our lot are going to kick up a right fuss, wish i could make it tonight. Expect a lot of Uruguayan flags by the sounds of it which would be a great positive demonstration of support. I don't however expect him to play as he's bound to be devastated.
Why support him...he is racist, he isn't the victim in all this. If a Newcastle player was proven to be racist I would be ashamed to have him at my club!
aginairr - Suarez has been banned for USING racist words... He has not been banned for being a racist... The FA have been very careful in how they have worded the statement...
Some Liverpool fans seem to be making out Evra to be a criminal and Suarez to be a poor innocent victim
I agree aginairr, racist words are not accetable. But in what the FA have put out, they say that they are not calling him a racist person, but they have said that he used racist language... The language barrier is something that you could hide behind, but when Evra calls himself the 'black gazelle', (thats his own nickname he has given himself...) and the saying that Suarez supposedly used means 'little black man' in his language, where do we draw the line... I do think we have to wait for the full quotes form both Suarez and Evra to see what exactly was said in this FA hearing... If it is found that Suarez has indeed come out with, as Evra has said, over 10 racist comments and used the 'black' wording to be discriminatory towards him then we have to look at Suarez and his actions in a completely dofferent way...
Evra is a prat, but Suarez is a victim - of the Fa's witchhunt and wish to be seen as harder on Racism than Blatter, even if it is, as the FA admitted in their opening statement, not a racist they are punishing. I dodn;t think you were that silly Berbs, but apparently you are. Under the FA's new interpretation, I expect Evra to be similarly banned for his offensive comments to Luis...
Ashamed much of Woodgate and Bowyer, were you? They gave an Asian lad a bloody good kicking outside a nightclub in 2001 - the victim was under no illusions he was targeted for the colour of his skin...
That's true SOME are. On the other hand. Because of the deliberate way the FA has done this. Today we have every tabloid calling Suarez a racist, phone ins on 5live etc debating his actions based on that judgement & not one of us has seen a shred of the evidence! Now that evidence may well show how much of a "victim" Evra was, but the only person officially demonised so far is Suarez. Do you think the FA used a deliberate ploy? If the evidence is so strong would't you, as the governing body want it released with the verdict to silence any support for the player from club & fans? Why the delay? Even criminals get a public trial with all evidence known before verdict.
I'm sorry but they must have had proof that he used racist language so he is not a victim. That's ridiculous. Ofcourse the FA have to be seen to be tough on racism on football, they have to backup the "Kick racism out of football" campaign. I think it's pathetic that anyone can make Evra out to be the "criminal" and Suarez the "victim" in this when the verdict shows the complete opposite. Unless ofcourse you were there at the hearing and heard everything that was said.
Again Berbs: a "verdict" shows us absolutely nothing other than a decision was made. If you honestly advocate a person being tried & punished in this manner then thank god you don't run our justice system. Secret courts belong in tin pot dictatorships. Again; why do you think if the evidence is so compelling it was not released by the FA at time of verdict?
I like the way that you- a) Assume that I like those two players and that I am happy for there actions, and b) That I remember that exact incident, I was 10 at the time and it isn't something I specifically remember...although I was aware that they were 'troubled' individuals at times, especially the latter. I just don't condone racist behaviour, full stop. This decision by the FA is not a witch-hunt, it is a statement of intent to try everything to remove racism from the game...and I say fair play, as long as Terry gets the same punishment.
The following is based on assumption, admittedly, since we've not seen the 'evidence' used by the FA, but... Luis allegedly used one word - Negrito - which has no direct translation into English. So if the word is not considered racist in its own language (Uruguayan Spanish), how can it be racist in another when used by a native speaker of that language? It is, of course, different when misused as a loan word into another language. My understanding is it is a descriptive only, for a small(er) black man. Does Uruguayan Spanish have a descriptive for a small(er) Uruguayan native Indian man, or a small(er) Uruguayan Spanish man? If so, its not even a racist word. Then it lies with how it is received. Since all this came out, I'm led to believe that Evra has publicly said that he doesn't think Luis is a racist. Given all the above, an 8 match ban and a £40,000 fine is a massive overreaction. That makes Luis a victim of the FA's agenda.
I agree that racist behaviour is unacceptable, but the FA said they accepted that Luis is not a racist. If someone is not a racist, why is an 8 match ban and a £40k fine appropriate? Is this what is correct for a misunderstanding between cultures and languages?
I have one question for Liverpool fans... If say, when he was here, Andriy Voronin made a racist remark in the exact same circumstances as Suarez has done, would you be as critical as the FA, or would you accept it and move on?
He has to abide by our laws if he want to ply his trade in our country. Same with any other crime that is viewed differently in different countries. And yes, in my opinion, the punishment is correct. They need to send out a message otherwise this whole 'kick racism out of football' campaign would be a waste of time. If he got let off because the word wasn't used in a racist way, what message would that give to young spectators of the game?
