Apart from the obvious upturn in the economy, what will it take to fill the SOL on a regular basis. The fans seem to be happy/excited with the signings we have currently made and IMO one more big signing would be the icing on the cake. It is now obvious the owner is willing to back the manager and if the performances on the pitch are decent then do you think the fans will back the owner so to speak.
Doesn't matter how many or who we get in mate if we don't win games we won't fill SOL, call it fickle or whatever you like but those are the hard facts. Some of the latter performances last season were terrible at SOL that is what people look at and that is why people will pick and choose their games yet again.
We've had three reasonable seasons (good by our standards!) but a couple of ghosts need to be dealt with, two slumps in two seasons and last season's derby. Off the pitch there is the recession. I reckon it'll take 2-3 seasons to get to 48k.
3 decent seasons Siddall but still we can't fill the place people are hacked off with watching dross mate and are voting with their feet. As you say 2 or 3 good seasons where we get a good finish each time with no slumps and decent performances ( a nice cup run would help as well) and we should get some back in.
Good exciting football, and also for fans to be more proactive in their vocal support, which will make the SoL 'the place to be', rather than people choosing to watch games from the pubs.
Until we can fill the ground with full paying adults ..... introduce cheap (£5) tickets for children accompanying adults. Achieves two things: fills the stadium and generates a great atmosphere; and introduces the fans of the future to the experience of being a sunderland fan. I know we wouldn't do this for the top games, but for wigan, stoke, blackburn, swansea et al, lets fill it up!
