Moyes beating Liverpool or Liverpool beating United for the first time ( in the league) since 2011 ( dirk hat-trick) Either way should be tasty and I expect the board to become, well, lively!
you will be earning your mod pay then bluff lol. home game i am hoping we pick up the 3 points, if it was away i would take a draw, but not at home, good opportunity to piss on Moyes parade and stuff them, 1-0 should do it lol
Moyes is going to be nervous as he has no good record at Anfield as a manager.it is going to be a good game-Form out the window, Liverpool v Manchester United.
As ever when we come up against Man Utd, I'm not confident. Though I suppose that's me just bracing myself for the worst as I live with two United fans. The hard part is done really, we got 6 points from games we should, now we go in to this fixture full of confidence and I'm not going to say less pressure, because this is arguably the biggest fixture in our league campaign, it's one that every Liverpool fan wants to win and it certainly feels the worst to lose. As pointed out above, it's all about RVP.. You can keep him quiet all game but if he gets that one chance more often than not he'll put it away, I see us needing more than one goal to win. The "midfield battle" will be key, and we'll need Lucas to play a blinder, we can't give Carrick time on the ball to dictate the pace of the match, we need to get in there faces and press high up the pitch, just like we did in the same fixture last season. I'm quietly optimistic but to be honest, I'm just glad we've got 6 points under our belt, it took us 7 games to get 6 points last season
Atm I've got a feeling it'll be a bore draw, but I'll be interested in seeing how Moyes measures up to Jose tactically on monday. That'll give us a good indication of what to expect next week
after yesterday's second half i am not so sure. the first half was great but we never came out i nthe second. in other words we could not put two passes together and it was not just villa's guys giving it a go. we simply didn't pass it. johnson came out like the game was won and all he needed do was avoid a second yellow. i don't like how we did that and fine rogders says we dug in and thats true but had we took possession and passed it about to take the sting out of villa as well we would have done better..... we got lucky with one or two chances they had so we are in a nice position in two games now of avoiding egg on our faces through a bit of luck. how long will luck continue.... hmmmm... play for 90 lads.
Well last season we didnt get points through some bad luck, you're moaning because that's changed. It's two games in, we're only getting up to speed atm and have 6 points from not playing at our best at all. Tisk tisk bad boy, get back in your box
Villa was probably hoping we would come out 2nd half and carry on as we was and they could counter attack us, as we didn't do that, they didn't have a clue what to do, so while we got lucky in the 2nd half we knew we had to play them at their own game and they ran out of ideas.
The second half definitely wasn't fantastic to watch and a lot of the time it was edge of your seat stuff, but I agree with what Jenners is saying here. They were the home team, one nill down, with all of the pressure on them to play. Their game plan was obviously to try to counter us, so why carry on giving them the opportunity? How many times have we been frustrated by Stoke-type teams coming to Anfield and parking the bus? I'm not saying I want us to play that style, but yesterday we showed that we can do the pretty stuff, get a goal and then shut up shop. It's about time we started closing games out.
Although it was a workman like performance, something you rarely associate with Liverpool, its good to see we have that in us now. How many times did villa get a sight of goal-3 or 4 times and not really anything you could call clear chances (maybe benteke at the end). In fact second half we did what has been done to us so many times at Anfield and "parked the us" to a certain degree. I'd take another 18 1-0 away wins where we grind out results. Look how fluent and what we created last week in the stoke game. A lot on here go on about a plan B.. Well maybe this is it. You can't play pretty football all the time, there's a time and place and if we had gone in search of the second goal,as we have in the past, and conceded one or even two then there would be many disgruntled posters on here. Three points are welcome however you get them. All the teams above us have games where they come away with it win when maybe they were fortunate and that's what we must do to. As for Utd ,well we never get much luck against them so it will be tough as always but maybe it's our chance . We just have to be more clinical in front of goal and hope that Chelsea can give RVP a little kick to put him out for that game. (Only kidding...sort of)
the road is long to get to a competitve club at the top. defensive surety, passing, ball retention and dependability are all attributes of that top side... but so is urgency, options off the bench and actual penetration. we lacked the latter 3 yesterday but came away with the points. It is rather obvious that we need suarez to stay and play and one more guy to come in.... if we have aspas and someone to launch from the bench thats tough for sterling and borini... but we need it.. they need to step up themselves. We could do with that cb cover too.... what if agger had dislocated a shoulder or broken another rib yesterday? anyway... that journey to the top... i think its safe to say we are on the path... you can't ask for more can you really. keep on the path....
Let's be honest here lads....the "Webb Factor" may well come in to play here. Don't be surprised if Gollum starts to get a few more of those 50/50 decisions now he's moved up from reserves to first team manager. At least we know that when all things were equal ref wise Moyes couldn't even beat the ****e we've had over the years. He's a tactical dinosaur.
true... i am expecting to see moyes defend very deep and have 11 men back v cheslea like as if he's managing relegation fodder... reply on rvp on the lash. if he does this and gets beat he'll have to change for us. if he gets a result i expect the same..... it'll be like lfc playing stoke under pulis
Apart from one strike from Benteke the second half was far more comfortable than it looked. BR knew that Villa have no idea what to do when the pressure is on them to dominate games and break teams down. Apart from that 1 chance we were fine and it was a good exercise for our concentration as a team, which was our biggest weakness last season. We got the early goal then sat back and soaked up a pressure, which is exactly how most away games are won by the top teams.
Rodgers and his team can out-think Moyes and his lot tactically so I'd be confident we can pull the win off if everything rested on that. But on the pitch other variables come into play such as the individual brilliance of a player like RvP for Man U, however we now have our own brilliant individuals to do damage to them, especially if everything slots together as it did in the first half yesterday. Against Utd you have to put out 90 mins of consistent quality football though, we haven't done that yet this season. Hope for the win, be satisfied with a draw.
good point a full 90mins is something we so far under rodgers have not delivered really. any result here is gravey. pick up the win the following week and it could be 9/10 out of 12 which is fabulous form.... get the win and its great
Always confident of getting a result against united, we usually up our game for them. I still maintain that their midfield is average and that's the place we look to exploit now with this team. Coutinho should have a fair bit of space with them not having a specialist defensive mid. Their defense is experienced and very well practiced though, will be tough to break down - on the plus side, their CBs lack pace, Sterling or Ibe could find some joy if they play. If Rodgers gets his tactics and team set out correctly, we can get 3 points.
Worth noting by the time we play Man Utd the window will have closed, both teams could look different, I fully expect them to have made at least 2 good signings.
