Dave Jones Billy Davies Steve Mclaren Aide Bothroyd Mark Hughes The list goes on and on. ALL of these have experience but can you spot the common denominator...? Yes, they've all had the sack for FAILURE..... Experience is useful BUT IT IS NO GUARANTEE OF SUCCESS What we need a quality man manager who knows about football and can get the best out of the squad. There will be no wave of new signings, the Financial Fair Play Rules will put a stop to that so from next year we have to make do with the current squad plus a few loanees so it is vital that we pick right THIS DOES NOT MEAN WE NEED A "BIG NAME" None of these were "big names" in their first jobs David Moyes Owen Coyle Paul Lambert Lee Clarke but look at where they are now... It is their ABILITY that got them where they are AND NOT THEIR EXPERIENCE... We need a good man manager and I really don't care where they come from so long as they can do the job properly....
Did they start at a club where confidence was at rock bottom and team in a rock bottom position in the league (Paul Lambert at Norwich?) I haven't had time to check their careers in depth, so its sort of a question rather than a point
The so called big names also come with big egos don't they prem? Let's face it we aren't going to attract a big name because we don't have the big budget that they will undoubtedly ask for to improve the squad. Your thread has it right on the mark and we would be better off with an up and comer who has the personal skills, both tactically and man management, to get the best from what we have. When was the last time you saw a game at AG and went home saying to yourself - I really enjoyed that because we played like we were going to win right from the kick-off? I think I know that it was not recently and how nice it would be to get someone in who can install that belief at AG again. Should we fail in our new endeavour we risk taking us back years in our developmental process, so this new appointment is critical to say the least and from reading between the lines of CS's interview he knows it as well. We need a new impetus to get the crowds back because that is a critical factor that will increase revenue but the on-field product is vital in the overall process. Our new manager must be able to work within strict guidelines and targets to turn us around and I hope that we pay due diligence to those factors during the upcoming interview process. No over sized egos please Colin.
Yes you do have a point.....However experienced managers learn by mistakes.......all managers WILL get sacked eventually (other than Alex F). I think if we were up the league doing ok and our manager walked out, then maybe someone up and coming would be good. As it is, we MUST stay in the championship at all costs. So experience for me everytime, I know Lambert did well for Norwich but then we had record breaking tempetures in October, which is something else that doesn't happen very often.
Unknown managers do make it,but a lot more don't ie; Paul Ince,Steve Kean. We're not in a position to take that chance are we?
well the more and more i read into McInnes the more im starting to like him, its just that he is a very big risk and at the moment i dont think we should take risks because were not in a position for the new manager to come in and take 10-12 games to settle down, as of that point we could be very much in the ****. we need a Jones/Davies who have done this league, and can most probably come in and in 2-3 games time he is settled and we feel hes took control of the team
If Boothroyd came here, the club would be getting my season card back in a 100 pieces, I just picked the first 5 names that came into my head.... HOWEVER as we are on the subject, he did work miracles with his motivational methods and a shoestring type budget and got Watford promoted to the Premier League (shame about the "football"). Going by the experience requirement by some, that fits the bill but no one wants him, go figure..?! As for invermeremike's question, the last time I came away from AG thinking wow, what a game was the Palace home play off game and how long ago was that...?!

BOOFY WAS A CHAMPIONSHIP SUCCESS STORY didnt make IT one up....falure???....maybe COULD BE TOP 3 on short list along with G N and GS
It wouldn't matter to me if we appointed an interim manager or management team just as long as we survive this season. Whilst I really wanted Millen out, the irony of it is that we could appoint a Dave Jones or similar with good Championship experience and still be in trouble in another 10 games time. There is no guarantee of success in football no matter who is involved....
ANGELIC........ I missed the first 5 games so I was up FOR 12 to sort out the problem, HAD WE HAVE HAD 12 points after 12 and Keefer was still here I may just have given him 4 more games..... 19 FROM 16 games. I look not at the next fixture, but being an expert chess player 5 or more fixtures down the road! Angelic The devil you know and the devil you dont comes to mind. Its OK to blindly make a decision and follow it to the death....in my line that is what would/may happen. YOU have to be prepared to assess on what is around you, believe it or not our chances of bottom 6 for the next 3/4 games is no different than yesterday, TEAMS PLAYING EACH OTHER IN THE SAME GROUP OF TEN KEEPING THAT 10 "IN TOUCH" A GAP OF 4 POINTS IS THE KILLER............
Hang on mate, Dave Jones's 'failure' was getting Cardiff to the playoff finals twice in a row but not winning them. Right now, that doesn't look like failure to me.
Didn't we get rid of Danny Wilson for the same reason, he was always the bridesmaid.... Whilst I get your point, it is all relative, Cardiff had a MUCH better squad than us and continually blew it so if he couldn't get them up....
JGF2 - I still believe that getting rid of Millen was 100% the correct thing to do. I still question whether it should have been done much earlier because the evidence was there for all to see that it wasn't working, and I still harp back to his appointment in the first place. Even if we were to employ Sir Alex Ferguson there would be no guarantee of success or even survival. You can't polish a turd as the saying goes, however I do think we have a squad with players in it that are well capable of being halfway up the league or better with the right manager in place and that is why this next appointment is a very important one, as the incoming manager may be the one that moves with the team to the new stadium and plans to push on to the promised land. Whenever I've seen Dave Jones on the touchline or as a pundit in a television studio he just never strikes me as aggressive or hungry enough and let's face it all of these guys are probably millionaires anyway and hunger is probably not a priority in their position, which is why a McInness might be the answer. On the flip side I do see Billy Davies as a staight talking no nonsense sort of guy, a bit like GJ was and he does have the experience. Personally if he rubs the board up the wrong way then I'd be delighted because as Brian Clough used to say, chairmen and owners know nothing about football, and I think it's true in our case. SL is a great businessman but I'm of the opinion that knows nothing much about football like a manager/ex player does, and I do think some of his appointments and decisions have been badly flawed over the last few years even though they were all made for the right reasons. As for Sexstone.....remind me again what skills or money he has brought into the club ? Aside from talking ****e all of the time and doing **** all I don't think he has any ??
