if riga doesn't sign up we need to get someone in soon to finalise our pre-season plans and to sort out who we let go and who we release.

what we need is someone with a track record of being able to get promoted when backed. we need someone who has played at championship level or above. someone who maybe has a small amount of international experience playing or coaching.

we need a manager who can ship out dead wood, sign 23 players and make them gel.

someone who is out of work so we dont have to pay compensation. someone respected.

    any ideas anyone?

Managerial first choice - Jose Riga.

Second choice - Curbs, if RD has the money

Failing that, any one of Dave Jones, Paul Tidsdale, Karl Robinson or even Phil Brown. I also rate Darren Ferguson.

Possible wild card - Tim Sherwood. I hear that Chris Powell has got the Spurs job.

...If you add that on to the players who are already under contract that gives us a very big squad.

Just one pint of Stella at lunchtime Super. Who don't you agree with on my managerial list ?

I also rate Sean Derry at Notts County if CAFC are looking. There are plenty of quality lower league managers out there, as well as lots of over rated foreign clowns in the Premier League like Pepe Mel & Ole Solsjkaer.

Personally don't agree with any of them. Phil Brown had a good season with Hull, but hasn't done much since. He fell from the premiership to league 2 in what, 4 years?

Karl Robinson has taken the dons backwards recently, not even in the play offs this year, despite having one of the biggest budgets in league one for the past 3 years.

Paul Tisdale should have left Exeter years ago. Has gone stale down there.

Dave Jones? Uninspiring. Sacked by Sheffield Wednesday when bottom of the league (?) and widely thought he underachieved at Cardiff with the squad at his disposal. I was in Cardiff when they lost to Reading in the play offs, and only a handful of fans would vouch for him.

    STEVE BROWN AND STEVE GRITT!

Even if it gives us only 2 and a bit years success like Powell, those 2 years could get us in the prem

Seriously though, yeah I like the sound of Gary Rowett

    No!
Maybe we need a manager who can run a club our size on a shoe-string, can pick up top players at bargain prices from lower divisions, can achieve and sustain Premier League status and will reject overtures from wealthier clubs. If only someone like that was available!!

The devil you know will do for me, so keep Riga...
What we actually need though, is better transfer activity than we got in January...

Didn't he have the title of "Managerial Consultant" at Newcastle? What about the dream team- pardew as manager and Dowie as consultant, always there with words of wisdom when needed?

I watched the Preston v Rotherham League One play off game at the weekend. Preston have a young English striker called Joe Garner who has scored over 20 goals this season, as well as scoring a brilliant volleyed goal on Saturday. If Preston don't go up, isn't this the type of player/striker we should be looking at ? He has got to be a better punt than the likes of Polish Pete and Reza for Championship football.

The players are out there. We just don't look.

Gary Rowett would be good, but as HI said on CL Nathan Jones knows the club and the younger players enjoyed working under him.

I gather Nathan has a poor reputation amoungst Brighton fans, he did great for our U21's but needs to prove himself somewhere.

Perhaps an ex Crystal Palace manager who is currently working at Talksport? ....... It would be an amusing ride :D
