3 transfers windows gone now under MoN are there is still no clear indication how the manager wants his team to be in the long term. Regardless of ability it is time we went for players who would fit into a certain system with certain attributes, my question is what qualities do we need to look for in with regards to bringing players in this summer and the transfer windows after that IMO we need to identify players with.... Pace Power Composure on the ball Vision we need some athlete's in our squad that contains a bunch of one paced plodderrs
I agree with your points poolie but to be fair to mon, I doubt he sends his scouts out looking for slow, weak as piss players who can only see out one eye.
We need to sign Danny Rose and then a right back similar. We then need a centre back with a bit of class and pace who can distribute the ball. Finally we need a centre midfielder who is composed and can get forward and play defence splitting passes. So we aren't far off :-/
I just don’t get this 3 transfer windows stuff though. He arrived at SAFC on the 3rd of December and knew NONE of his team. How on earth can anyone realistically have expected him to go out 4 weeks later and start to rebuild a squad he would have had no idea of the existing strengths and weaknesses of? If he had gone out and spent £10m on players for the short term would that have been the actions of a man with a plan, or more the actions of Computer Football Game Management junkie, with absolutely no ideas or strategy. He HAD to take the first 4 or 5 months to access his squad and it didn’t take him long to act once he did. However, he has had the summer and the winter windows to ship out and buy in and has done so well imo. Fletcher, Rose and Johnson were brought in along with stocking fillers like McFadden and Saha and N'Diaye, Mangane and Graham this winter. The start has begun but it isn’t something that can be fixed in 2 transfer windows. I can’t believe there is anyone that thick that that thinks it could be? We will again invest in the summer and as stated by Quillips I too doubt he sends his scouts out looking for slow, weak as piss players who can only see out one eye? He knows we need pace to play his tactics and style and that’s exactly what we will bring in imo but again, MoN's finished article wont be ready to unveil in August either and it may well be next January by the time he gets the majority of his selections in for good. I do expect though that this summer his main 2 or 3 targets will come in earlier and then the icing on the cake in January will be 1 or 2 second half season boosters but I do expect they will come sometime this next 10 months and why anyone would think he would be looking for piss poor players is beyond me tbh. He has been here at Sunderland 66 weeks gone Monday and if anyone thinks a top side can be forged, with long term success in mind in that time, then I give up debating with them full stop from this point as its pointless wasting my breath. When he has actually been here 2.5 to 3 seasons and still no progress has been made, then and only then we can realistically debate his pros and cons and whether he stays or goes. Until then why can’t we just enjoy the fact we have a decent top class manager at the helm for once and let him do his job without picking over every scrap of flesh on his bones like some pathetic football vultures? You'd think we were in QPR's hapless position right now and not a mere 3 points from a top 10 place ffs.
As we are well into the giving out awards season can I please , once again give POOLIE the "stating the bleeding obvious award" we'll done ..........again...........
