    Goals!

    and a goal scoring threat.

Cant help but feel we would have benefitted much more from a fully fit Taylor all season. Sorry Willo, you keep giving it your best but your best is sadly just mediocre at this level.

I don't think we need a new CB now that will start. Just a new back-up so we have four capable centre backs. Taylor has been brilliant defensively, I'm so impressed with him!

    Mediocre is harsh!

He is a steady squad player. Lets not forget its his first season in the Top Flight and I think he held his own...

But fair play, I'll hold my hands up, Taylor has been great past 2 games!

  4. I'VE SAID IT A THOUSAND TIMEs

When he gets a proper chance starting, he's ****ing amazing. He's been awesome the last two games upfront and in defense!

He's much better that Williamson and potentially our best physical type CB. He's physical and great in the air, and Colo has great reflexes and speed.

    Both are crackin CB'S!

Willo did well then he had a slump and then his injury. Taylor has come in and taken his chance, I have to agree with Jackie one thing we get with Taylor and not Willo is goals.

This....Let's remind ourselves of the 'drop Colo and Wilo and play STaylor and Sol' rant that loads of people went on after they played one good game together (and before Sol revealed he was ****e)

Taylor is erratic, he always has been...He'll pull of an amazing latch ditch tackle, then make a stupid mistake!

To be fair, Colo and Willo both had three match suspensions at the time so it was a logical choice. We still need a centre half (Samba), to partner Colo. Taylor's a talented player, but he can be rash at times. He had a stormer yesterday, but so did Bramble used to.

    I still want Samba!
Taylor is great and Willo would be a brilliant 3rd/4th choice
but our squad is paper thin and another solid CB wouldn't go a miss at all!

Taylor is class, he makes the odd mistake but he's about as good as we're gonna get.

2 Goals and plenty of mistakes, he was lucky to be on the pitch against Birmingham.

Credit where it is due he's scored twice in 2 games, but his main point of being on the pitch is to defend and at times he looks dodgy.
Going for goals isn't something willo has worked on by the looks of things but he is a no nonsense defender, clear first ask questions later.
If we had decent strikers we wouldn't need Taylor to score.

I still prefer Collo / Willo at the back

But thing with Taylor is that you never know when he is going to do something stupid... And that worries me when he is on the pitch.

Good footballer, good goal threat, but a bit erratic... Still, if he keeps on playing well he deserves his place in the first team

Hasn't Willo got a good couple of assists this season as well - I seem to remember him setting up at least 2/3 of Carroll's goals!

You also never know when Willo is going to hoof it right into the path of an oncoming player from the other team.

That's all he does. Gets it away, and sometimes he doesn't even do that right.

Taylor has been better defensively and scores goals. Hopefully he won't have too many errors (every player does at times), but we have to take him at face value. So far so good. I'd definitely rather have him over Willo.

However, If we can improve the defence with an even better CB, like Samba, I'd take that too and make Taylor 3rd choice.

  15. No, it's not just two games, when ever he gets a good run he's an excellent CB. He's always excellent starting properly.

  16. When Taylor first comes back after injuries, he seems to forget his position a bit, but when he's in a proper run of games he's an excellent CB.

He's much better than Willo at the back, he wins more the air despite being 3 inches smaller, he can make a good pass where as Willo always knocks it out of play, most of the time for no reason other than he's mediocre and that's the only thing he can do when he's under pressure. I've heard of no nonesense defenders but Willo takes it too far.

Clearing the ball out of play when you don't really have to gives the opposition possession back in your half, and that can be fatal. I can't believe he even does it against Stoke, when we know that we cannot afford to gives Stoke throw ins!

Willo is an average CB, Taylor a great CB when he's played properly, not as a RB or as a sub.

I'm not being a dick, but didn't you say you only started following Newcastle properly in our Championship season? (may have been relegation season)...Taylor has been the same way since he was an 18 year old under Sir Bobby. A few really good games, a few clangers. I agree he has the potential to be great (if he cut the injuries and occasional erratic play out of his game) but hes definitely not 'great' yet....As someone else pointed out - He could easily have been sent off against Birmingham!

  19. I've always watched Newcastle and always supported them, but the Championship season was the first season i bought a season ticket.

I've seen enough of Taylor over the years. My Dad has always had faith in him, but he's got the same opinion i have. When he's in form and fit, he's a class CB, but he's been unlucky with injuries, and you never know when he's going to pick one up. So that's why we both agree a new CB is needed just incase.

I personally think at his best, Taylor is as good as Colo but for a different reason. Taylor is strong, great in the air, excellent goal threat. He has his weaknesses at times, but Colo also has his weaknesses. Colo is definitely our best and most consistant but Taylor is probably as good when he's in form.
