Probably a sound financial reason. Spurs probably picked up most of the costs so they could park him with us, so it was worth a look in case he could do something for us. Turns out that Adkins either thinks he's not good enough or not wanted in that position. He came in at a time we needed players but were having trouble signing them because we only wanted the best...no point in signing people not suited for the PL on a permanent contract.
We signed him when we had a few players injured and Puncheon in exile. At the time it was a wise signing but since then other players have returned and i would much prefer our own players getting game time than a loan player who will leave us next season if we get promoted or not.
As I said before, he came here to learn, not to star, a sort of Football Finishing School for up and coming stars, he was never going to ours for keeps.
I don't think Adkins was expecting Puncheon to return. Had Puncheon been sold, Falque might have had some more game time. But it seems he hasn't impressed Adkins in training. He has looked good in the recent U21's though, would like to see him given another go but not at the expense of promotion!
It's called planning for the unexpected. A couple of injuries or red cards and we'd be using him. That's why you have a squad.
It's not even like he was bad in his 45 minute cameo - he had little to do because of problems with service and the fact he only had 45 minutes, but wasn't bad. Played all his passes spot on, but didn't really do anything good or bad. Just not been given a chance!
If i remember rightly we signed him when Lallana had injury problems, and Nigel was probably looking for someone who could do a similar job in case Adams injury was worse than first feared. Luckily for us Adam came back quicker than first feared,so Flaque has been left kicking his heels. God forbid, but if Adam got a knock again, then i suspect Falque would be back in the squad.
There's no point finishing third and complaining about injuries. It doesn't take much for a player to get injured, stick a couple of weeks out on Lallana and Guly and suddenly Falque becomes a very good signing indeed. Fortunately it hasn't worked out that way so far.
Is it possible that he is used in trianing for the full backs to practice against pacey tricky wingers? For example, he is probably the most like CPalace's player Zaha that we have in the squad, so maybe he was used in training for Butterfield ot practice against?
I think he was signed as a replacement for Puncheon, who it looked like wouldn't play for us again. Puncheon apologized and got himself back in the squad so Falque dropped further down the pecking order
Using a link posted on here, I did a little twitter research on Puncheon. It appears back along he was late for training, because his car got clamped, he then fails to make it into match day squads. It then gets too 'street' for me to understand, but most recently the posts are very strange. 'Loose lips sink ships' & other bizarre stuff. I was kinda hoping that our renewed relationship would go somewhere, but I fear an imminent divorce I'm afraid to say. Maybe someone cooler than me should try to translate? Yo, dudez.
He got into trouble on twitter before, so that presumably is the loose lips bit. Sounds like all is not well in paradise...suspect he thinks he should be playing.
