.................. that pack of bitter and twisted nonsense "Saints fans on Adkins" for the Reading fans. A more distorted and twisted pack of half truths innuendo and down right nasty lies I have never read. He/she is no Saints fan. Here is an example of the rubbish written: One that definitely sticks in mind is that Nigel had hardly any control over the clubs transfers. When Vegard Forren signed for Southampton on the day of Nigels sacking, he was asked what manager he was signed by. He said 'the club signed me'. Another piece of evidence for this is that my dads friend was at a charity meal with Nigel last summer. When he asked about the potential of signing Nathaniel Clyne (rumours where strong at the time), he responded with 'He's certainly not on my list, he's not tall or strong enough'. This is something Nigel would pick out when Southampton lost at the start of the season multiple times, almost as if it were a sly dig at the chairman. The rumour that surrounds the Man United game at the start of the season I mentioned earlier, was that Cortese rang downstairs and ordered 3 forwards came on to boost saints lead and 'announce the saints in the big time'. It was hugely thought among Saints fans that Cortese picked the team, and this is how fan (not) favourite Guly Do Prado was a constant feature in the team. He was known by some as Cortese's 'Golden Boy', and that he's so far up the Chairman's backside he can't be seen. Its a disgusting way to treat someone. No man in work deserves to be treated like this, so why should a football manager! All I hope is that Reading is set up a bit differently. Nigel took Southampton in his heart, and if he does the same with Reading, you're in for a rollercoaster ride few years. As long as your chairman doesn't get too involved, and you give him great support, then you will no doubt achieve under him. His level of dedication is unrivalled, he was widely reported to have left St Marys in tears, pulled out by Security on the day he was sacked. He left a note in the training changing rooms saying 'keep smiling'. The most classy man I've ever seen set foot in Southampton FC, I prefer his Football to our new managers and would happily have him back over Pochettino any day. And don't forget, with age, comes wiseness. Good luck, and let us win on the 6th! What is wiseness FFS? Wisdom is a great deal the author of this claptrap needs to learn before he goes pretending to be a writer and a knowledgeable Saints fan.
Where is this from ?! I wrote for VitalReading's Saints fans on Adkins so I'm hoping I'm not associated with this cock.
They clearly have no idea what they were talking about. Everyone now knows that Nigel didn't leave the 'keep smiling' note in the changing room.
What is really sad about all this is he's not the only one who believes Atkins had no say about team selection and substitutions - the conspiracy theorists seem to have infected our fan-base. I have to add that I was unhappy when Pardew was sacked and have been proven wrong. I was also unhappy about Adkins sacking and have been proven wrong once again. So although I have supported this club for over 45 years it still shows that I know sod-all about football!!!
Ah yes, the mythical contract that said Guly had to come off the bench in every game (except for the ones that he didn't come off the bench in). Oh wait, turns out the kid is 16. Move along...
Having seen the guys Twitter profile, it's no surprise really. The Clyne comment in particular definitely doesn't sound like a Nigel comment.
I've found the article. St.G He prefaces your selection with his opinion that Nigel Adkins had been mistreated, indeed backstabbed by the Club and Pochettino. He says... This wasn't the only time Nigel was mistreated in his time at the club, according to the rumours. I'll give you a select few, but there's so many I couldn't possibly fit them all into this article And then it carries on into your paragraphs. I understand your frustration, but it's only this person's opinion and it is all rumour only. Note that the article was Part 4. DTLW had also done a piece that was very balanced and responsible, as Part 1 I believe, and presumably there are two other articles. To be honest if Nige did think that about Clyne then he deserved to be sacked! What a load of old codswhallop.
Why Saints managers' leave is becoming one of those weird urban legends, for both Pardew and Adkins Saints weren't doing badly so why did they go! I don't know, the deed is done and we all move on. Adkins was good, but now he's not our manager maybe I can view how good or bad his tactics in today's match are with less bias. As for all the rumor and speculation about Cortese, it's starting to sound more like the stories told about the Stig on Top Gear - some say Cortese................and he ...................(fill in gaps with appropriate fantastical rumours of the day)
Agreed. In the end, I suppose the media fuss is all about the timing of the dismissals. Cortese has a huge ambition for Saints, we know that. He appoints people to fulfil their purpose within the plan of achieving that ambition. Then there comes a point where they've done their best and he feels that someone else needs to take over. That's the cold logic of it. Staying with that cold logic, anything else, like loyalty, is froth and emotion. It's harsh, but without Cortese's attitude, Saints could easily still be in League One. How harsh would that be..?
RE the Clyne comment (If it was said at all), NA was hardly likely to say anything on the matter, if he was trying to deflect the question he would have said like "he (Clyne) does look good, so do some others", Saints keep these things quiet. But it is this guys opinion, he`s no journo, why are you getting so upset St G.
Each to their own but it is the young lads hypothesis I guess. It is a bit strange I would agree but at the end of the day he is entitled to his opinion as strange and uncorroborated that it is.
You can be a Southampton fan without being a Cortese fan. Supporting a club doesn't mean blindly supporting every decision they make. Not saying you or anyone else on this board does, but I'm just saying it's silly to call someone not a fan just because in this instance, they strongly disagree with Cortese's action.
But this is about at best ignoring facts in order to loosely support a wayward opinion. That's different.
True, but as LTL says below... And when you consider that Cortese is making every decision with the best interests of Southampton FC at heart, AND HIS DECISIONS ARE WORKING, it is very difficult not to hold your hands up and admit the guy has been, and is, right. BTW, PL... haven't you got a Portsmouth forum to comment in today..?
