What type of striker do we actually need?

Since 'he who shall not be named but likes to attend Boyzone concerts with older men' left us we've got a gap in the squad that needs filling this summer.

As the aforementioned who shan't be mentioned played a pivotal role in getting goals; do we replace with like for like or take on a new 'style' of front man?

Personally I've been enjoying the football since he left as the team haven't been reduced to finding the target man up front and relying on him to hold the ball and bring in play.

It leads me to think that we can get away with out his style of play and employ some more creative players up front who can latch onto passes that Barton, Ben Arfa and Jonas can supply.

True that , we have been playing more attractive football since that long haired gypsy left us. I would like us to get a player similar to Martins , only a more loyal one and one with better finishing.

Think we could do with two strikers, but if Best, Ameobi or Ranger do better than I expect than I may change my opinion. So could do with a fast striker, someone like Martins (though probably not him), and a taller striker, someone in a similar mode to Carroll.

 

Fast man for me. Shola, Best and Ranger due to their size and strength can play as target men and have been used as such at times since He Who Shall Not Be Named left. But like others I prefer the ball on the deck style of recent weeks and hope that continues. A fast Bellamy type would be nice to go along with that.

 

A mixture of ''Creative'' man and ''Fast'' man would do for me, someone like Ronald Vargas or Juan Albin springs to mind, I'll prefer Vargas though, technically very good, fast, ''nippy'' and very skillful.

Depends what we need come the end of the season. If Best and Lovenkrands can form a decent partnership until then, and Ranger and Airey (and possibly Donaldson - not sure what position he will play) can come through, I'm not sure if we will need. If the above can't score regularly enough, then somebody who can bring our strong attacking midfield (Nolan, HBA, Barton, Ireland etc.) into play.

 

Forgot about Airey, tend to think Airey and Ranger could do from a year out on loan in the Championship where they'd play every week.

 

^ That would be awesome.. maybe include Vuckic behind the front two aswell and you'll have a quality front 3!

 

In my opinion we need a new Carrollesque striker, because Barton's pinpoint deliveries are going begging at the minute, and we could also do with a new fast man who can run onto the big mans flick ons etc.... so someone in the mould of Carroll and someone in the mould of Bellamy, both needed.

 

This. AC was a breath of fresh air, there wasn't another similar in the prem that was powerful on the ground, in the air and have a hell of a left foot etc.... I cant think of anyone that can replace him

 

A fast and creative striker then hopefully we can play alot more football on the floor

Target man with hold up ability to bring others into the game but can also play off the last man (a lot to ask for I know)

If you look at our current squad, I think we should play a 5 man midfield as I can't justify dropping Tiote or Barton on merit, Nolan (our top scorer) Gutierrez on current form and also 'cause he does so much for the team that isn't appreciated by many...Plus Ben Arfa is hands down the player with most ability in our squad, him and Barton together with their passing, him and Gutierrez with their running is quite a formidable thought!

A top class striker/target man, and we've got goals from set pieces (both direct and indirect) whilst having the ability to run and pass short/long at and through defenders!

 

I think we need two strikers that can feed off each other, both good in the air and on the ground, the problem with "Target" men is that the tactics get stuck into lumping the ball up field rather than playing it through the midfield and wings.

 

A tall one with a long Gypsy-like haircut....oh wait. The only one of them around is a **** (points if you can find another one). I guess i'd settle for one that works as hard as he can every game

 

Two strikers please. Someone nippy who can chase balls and another strong player who can hold up and has a good finish.

Style-wise, Walcott and Viduka.

A fast bellemy-esque player.

And a hardman/targetman.

Hopefully our creativity will come from Ireland & Ben Arfa.
