This could be interesting. Add others if you wish. Sometimes I go to games and listen to what fans are shouting and wonder if I turned up at the wrong sport! We all have q different understanding of the game.
To be fair Some people have not perhaps played beyond a school boy level or perhaps the lower leagues of the Tyro or some sort. (That statement is not meant as an insult just a fact of life). As a consequence they don't always see the reason behind playing a certain way or varying that play against different teams. At a guess we all will have our understanding as to what we want the team to do. I E Score as many goals as possible it is just the tactic of doing that where we will have differences. For me the first thing is to hold our own. The second is to take what chances we create and create them which ever way we can. If we have to go down lets at least go down fighting and not with just a whimper.
Very honest conman and probably more so than me. I drive down with my football purist head on but once there I demand the win! I'm just a big hypocrit sometimes.
I tend to be in the same camp. The first thing I want is a win but I can't say I'm satisfied with a "win at at all cost". A win achieved by good football raises my confidence to believe that success is possible, whereas a string of unconvincing wins leads me to think that we will be caught out eventually. That probably says what type of fan I am. There was a period during last season when we were winning but not playing all that well. The forums were full of posters saying "It's all about winning games"and that old favourite "It's a good team that wins when not playing well" but I was not so sure. In the end, I was wrong and all I remember now is the fantastic run in where we looked a very good team indeed.
I played in the top league of Tyro about 10 years ago now I like to see saints win at all costs. Bonus if we play well.
I went for the 'like to see good football' but with a leaning towards win at all costs. I want a fast start to the season..would love points earnt by good football the best, but would also settle for flukey wins off somebody's bum and dubious penalties. We outshone most teams in League 1 last season sometimes without scoring as much as we should have done; this season will be tougher but perhaps with more open games.
Some games I'm all of those. Just passionate really, if the team/ref aren't performing well I'll let them know it, but when the players need encouragement, I'll give it to them as much as my voice allows me. I know that sometimes we can't win playing fantastic Football, and getting ugly wins helps the confidence of the team sometimes.

Optimistic hate the moaners who are usually the ones who leave ten minuets before the end of games however we are playing. They are probably the ones who moan about ticket increases and pay for a full only to watch three quaters of it i despise them go and watch the skates . We always try to play good football home or away as fans these days we are reasonably entertained with this side so always get right behind them that way we will always have more chance of success.ps i love to win but above all am proud to be a saints fan
I was brought up with Saints playing fast attacking football. Paine and Sydenham on the wings etc, with the likes of big Ron Davies, O'Brien, Chivers, Channon, McDougall doing the scoring. Big John McGrath Docker Walker and the like taking no prisoners in our Ale House team. I would prefer open attacking football but as I have aged victory has become so much more important. Still like to be entertained though.
I remember all the 1 nil home wins at the start of the 84 season - and also the 2 games in a row against spurs and Coventry winning 5-0 and 8-2. I like it when we play into Lambert, but not when we hoof it beyond him.
I do a 220 mile round trip (1 3/4 hours each way) and when we lose it seems like a thousand! When we beat MK Dons 3-2 (my highlight of the season) I was home in five minutes!! I suppose what I'm saying is that a win means a great weekend but to win pretty is even better. On the other hand, the 2-0 defeat at MK Dons (NA's first game) was my low point of the season when we just resorted to hoof-ball after going down.
if we win every game 1 - 0 against the run of play, noone will remember it due to the joy of back to back promotions. Great football, and conceding a late winner is remembered as a loss. Win every time for me.
Wrote win at all costs, but in all honesty the amount of times I've jumped out of my seat when we win the ball in our own half from an opposition corner or deep free kick and yelled at our players "RUN" "****ING RUN" As loud as I can (then realise I'm with my dad and apologies for my language) is at least 4 to 5 times every game so probably get the ball forward quickly! However I understand when patience is needed or if we are winning im happy for kelvin to sit on the ball if needs be!
