I was just out of nappies when Sunderland last played in the 3rd division. What is the average cost of a ticket in this league? What sort of following to away games do clubs take? What is the average home attendance? I've already checked transfer fees so I know what to expect there. We are a club in disarray and I don't expect us to bounce straight back. We need a new owner and a few players bringing negativity sold off before that will happen. I think we'll keep the likes of Paddy McNair and a few other young lads but the majority I would like to see moved on. I expect us to struggle to begin with next season but gradually improve over the season finishing about mid-table.
The average cost at Gills is £24 on match day at the ground, a few quid cheaper if purchased in advance but then you lose some of that difference with online fees. Away followings are generally low right across the league. Can't remember but i think we take 2-3k to Charlton probably the highest. Our away end holds about the same figure but is rarely filled. Best away followings always a Saturday game. I think Sunderland will boost the overall attendances across the league next season. Attendances vary 4-7k averages. I think Bradford are probably high but they give season tickets away cheap. As for squad, I expect and want us to have a complete clear-out. Only name worth a mention out of our lot is Zakuani. We lost our best talent to Blackburn (Dack) but no surprise there. The only team i would hold as done successful coming out of league one in similar situation is Wolves. If memory serves me right, I think Blackburn started off badly. Aside from Coventry, worst disaster has to be Leyton Orient, verge of Championship football to National League demise. Teams that have been hanging around in this league for a while and probably should have gone up by now, Posh & Bradford. Style of play in League One, probably keep it on the ground, leave the big lads and hoof ball behind in L2.
I was long out of nappies the last time Sunderland was in Division 3. Some would say that it won't be long before I'm back in them again ! ...... I remember nearly breaking my ankle in celebrating our win against Sunderland in the play-offs ( when we used to score goals at home ) - anyway - I will soon be off - going to Bristol - unless my 'idiot pills can take effect.' nb - I do know that the Black Cats were actually in the old Division 2 at the material time - The FA decided that, in this season, the 3rd from bottom team in Div 2 ( Snderland ) would play the 'lowest' placed team in the play-off positions in Division 3 (Gills). Gills went through on away goals - and then lost 0-2 to Swindon following a miserable final replay. The only good thing about that match was - what seemed like hundreds of Gills fans running through some back garden - to reach a road that the police had blocked off ( those were the days )
Cheers mate. I thought it might be about £15 a ticket in this league . You could watch us in the premier league for £28. We've sold 17,000 season tickets already which is quite surprising and we are now being took over so we could end up with about 25,000 season tickets which would mean our attendance will probable average between 35k and 40k. It's looking way more than I even considered. Coleman sacked so the new owners must have somebody lined up. Hopefully they can spend money and we can try get back at the first attempt now.
