I came downstairs late today and found we were winning 4-2 and lo and behold some 20 minutes later we had given up 3 goals to lose what was almost a last minute playoff spot. Shocking defending on the goals and we looked disinterested to say the least and I couldn't see what happened with Fielding's own goal. If any match sums up our season then this might be it and it almost looked as if we didn't want the chance of improving our lot in the football world. Wait a minute we have scored our 5th but I still don't think it will be enough to get us there. Frankie just stopped what could have been the winner and we have a man down injured. Essentially we went from a single point off the playoffs with 2 games left to 3 points adrift with 2 difficult matches coming our way. Highly entertaining if you want goals rather than a chance to go further. I think that was the end of our season in a practical way and the debate will continue as to what the hell happened in 2018 to a team that started so well, but the beat goes on.
Has he gone yet Mike LJ is absolutely clueless, shocking subs today. Oh and anyone think Bryan is prem class he was torn apart today. Fielding how the hell he keeps the jersey is beyond belief.
Crazy crazy afternoon. I can’t believe we are still in the mix - 3 points needed with 6 to play for. This could go to the last game of the season!!! Bring on the florists!!!!
I have been on holiday for 3 weeks and whilst I've followed the results I resisted the urge to vent my frustrations at some of them, but this is a new low. I've heard rumours that Johnson is being touted as a suitor for WBA and also that his name has been mentioned for the new Arsenal set up. All I can say is that he must talk a good game, because he never seems to have a Plan B on the pitch. I'd say WBA and Arsenal are welcome to him.
Saw the scores coming in and agree red and white, a crazy afternoon for your boys. You do get them at this time of year. It's an odd one for you. If you finish 3 points off the playoffs it must be seen as a good season for you. I'd have settled for that for us at the end of last season. The thing working against you getting top 6 isn't the 3 points, it's the 4 teams you have to overtake. If it was one team I'd say you had a chance, but I can't see Preston, Brentford, derby and milwall ALL slipping up. Will do what we can for you on Tuesday though.
It's a good point but it's all about context. If we'd had this form at the start of the season and our good form at the end of the season, people would be saying about how clever it was to stick with LJ, how we've turned a corner and finally we're moving in the right direction. Instead, it's a disappointment, despite the fact that, as you correctly said, we'd have taken this at the start of the season. Quite disappointing, there is zero chance of us gaining play-offs now, it's not happening. Time to give some of our exceptional youngsters a chance I think, which for once at Bristol City is genuinely exciting. If Bobby and Bryan were both to stay (which I can't see happening), we could realistically look at 5 academy products starting matches at times next season, which is a great place to be.
Can see your point Rob, however had we had our poor form at the beginning of the season and the bad form now it would mean we'd sorted out whatever the problems had been , the worry is this way around LJ seems at a loss as to what the problems are , which makes sorting them out problematic.
Not necessarily. We had bad form last season and then an amazing run - were our problems sorted out? Evidently not. In your instance, it could have ended up the exact same way,
We are about to enter our 4th consecutive season in the Championship (assuming we don’t crash the playoffs by some miracle). When was the last time we spent 4 seasons consecutively at this level? I can’t remember - must be the 1970s. Not bad really then is it.
They were sorted out sufficiently for us to have a good finish to last season and continue the form through until December last , who's to say the bad form now is due to the same reason. The worry is if we do the same and continue our end of season form through to the beginning of next we could be in serous problems, appreciate that isn't a given , but is possible.
We was promoted in 2007 and relegated in 2013 I will let you do the maths. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bristol_City_F.C._seasons
Personally very concerned with his statement, does not fill me with confidence at all.Next season I think we are in for a rough ride with the better players being sold. SL has a lot to answer for, lovely stadium granted, excellent Rugby team, but the football club has been neglected being coached by a rookie.SL has got a decision regards how the club goes forward. The extra st sales. and additional footfall won’t last if the current stats carry on next season.
It's possible, again not a given though RR, BigJohn thinks the exact opposite, it's all about opinions and why we love the game so much , me I'm not convinced either way . Much will depend on departures and arrivals during the summer. None of us know for sure who will leave , who will say and who the new arrivals will be , I think we are in for a very important period that will possibly determine how we move forward for the next few years , let's hope we get it right.
