Evening All, this is a bit of a frivolous thread which enables me to mix my two great loves Music and football. Whilst I have no problem with the current song we come out to, it doesn't seem to inspire either the team or the supporters. I must admit I did like it when we had Gillingham songs to run out to, not well known songs but at least we had our own identity, which the last couple have certainly lacked. But in the absence of any Gillingham supporting supergroups, I am inviting suggestions for actual songs or ideas for a type of music that should be played and also memories of previous songs we have run out. As an example I still cant listen to Jump by Van Halen without thinking about Glenn Roeder. As for my own ideas we could go for the ironic like Paradise by Coldplay, or if Taylor stays in charge how about 'The Changingman' by Paul Weller (a huge personal favourite of mine), but my preferred choice would be a piece of strident classical music like Mars the Bringer of War or Ride of the Valkyries but perhaps Entry of the Gladiators would be more apt! (I will let you go find that) and you will see what I mean!
Personally I find the whole 'walk out song' a challenge to get right or even for it to be bearable. When we had the Liquidator last year, a lot of people liked it but I just felt we were trying to be the Chelsea of League 2 and that it was simply a bit of a cop out of a choice. At Milton Keynes last week they had 'Welcome to the Jungle' which was in equal parts cringeworthy and hilarious as to think of Milton Keynes as anything other than depressingly functional never mind a Jungle was too much to overlook. Speaking of cringeworthy I personally would like to have the old 'Super Blue Army' song on before kick off as its original at least and honestly some clubs take it far too seriously, for example some clubs using opera music is just too much especially when its only Nuneaton vs Southport! (I don't know if they use it it was just for the sake of the point!) Anyway a bit of nostalgia and playfulness would be good and 'Super Blue Army' is a choice I could get behind! Let me hear you say Gillingham! For those of you who have scandalously forgot this classic, heres the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WigbFtafogM
We are a small unit often overlooked by the big boys, the task ahead will seem too large for our size giving us a steep hill to climb, yet we come out starting slowly but once we build up a head of steam nothing can hold us back. Theme tune from Thomas the Tank Engine.
brb - is this what you mean ? and not in anyway offensive ! - unless, of course you've had two sons who watched T-T-T-E for hours on end when they were small people !
We could even alternate every other week.
