There's been a lot of chat about how bad the club is being run, lot of support for and against Roland. Interested to know the opinions of others. There was a "Roland Out" banner at the WatfordFC match: please log in to view this image I'm on the Roland Duchâtelet OUT side for the following reasons: The club used to have a good relationship with the fans and their opinions were taken into consideration, but recently I have a feeling that they just don't care A string of unknown coaches have not given us anything to get excited about Refusal to install a manager insinuates he wants to make the decision and thus is ultimately responsible for our poor performances by interfering in team lineups and player choices Movement of unneeded players (having six goal keepers on your books and one actual goal scorer is a joke) Selling our best striker for peanuts to a club in our league High opinions of second rate euro players whom should never been allowed to put on a Carlton shirt The problem now is that the boo'ing is starting again. Something that Powell worked hard to mend, and did succeed. We're going backwards rather than forwards.
To be honest the worst thing about it is the players are getting affected, this is the first time I have heard the players making their voices heard since being a Charlton fan. Players like Jackson standing up to the board and just questioning what is going on is never going to be a good sign. As for signing a manager who has criticised players in the squad and had bust ups with many of them, you really do have to question Duchatelet's common sense as well.
....and therein lies the problem. Roland, as Katrien confirms, WILL do it his way, regardless of common sense. He's trying to run about 5 clubs, hard enough to run one, but when you don't know anything about football you're going to make bad decisions, which is what has happened, and will continue to happen. He's stuck Katrien in the firing line to cop the flak, and succeeded so far, but it won't be long before the attention focusses where it should, on Roland himself..........
It already has. Fans rioting, an abnormally amount of abuse to one of his decision over social media, that gained traction on the TV and press. Given that it's a small world, you have fans from all of his owned clubs talking to each other... He has to realised that people are not stupid as he thinks.
I don't really understand enough about the Spanish model of football club ownership with the President thing; but they are elected aren't they? Football Chairmen/owners are ultimately accountable to the fans yet in the UK the fans have no means to excercise that accountability. Something needs to change. Come on Ginola!
Out. I foresee us "doing a liege" and cashing in on our players this summer and not getting suitable replacements.
The whole system stinks and although not illegal it should be never wanted him here still don't ...we have new seats and nice pitch that's the extent of the progress made ,in fact we have gone backwards sinc RD came .
Something which is starting to make me squirm is the shouts from fellow fans to "stick with the team" etc etc. Under the previous regime we pretty much all stuck together as the situation was more unique in the fact we knew we had no money and we could only improve within. What we have now is a chairman who is very wealthy and has to ability to go out and sign several needed players - but he won't. In fact he's made some howlers in letting players leave and we're now on our 4th manager within a year. Add that to several news outlets reporting unrest in the squad to the way the clubs being run - then why should we not be vocal about how we feel? Hearing stories of long standing fans not wishing to return makes me more angry than the thought of RD leaving us. I know who I would rather stand with.
Loved the anger and passion our superb away support directed at Duchatelet on Saturday. I am proud to say that I stayed until the 94th min and the 5th goal in order to boo the players off. Cowardly, shameless con artitsts - Buyens in particular.
I think the only thing that is going to hurt the current regime is if we don't buy Season tickets for next Season and also don't buy individual tickets, Standard Liege fans rioted and also broke into the ground and confronted RD but that doesn't seem to have made any difference to RD. The only thing he seems to understand is money. The Club is a shambles, we don't seem to have a clear direction. The players are pissed off with the Peeters regime and appointing Luzon. The fans are pissed off with KM lying to us.We are all pissed off with the lack of strengthening of the team with good quality Championship players. The Club reminds me of a ship that has run aground and is floundering on the rocks about to sink.
I did laugh at the You Tube confrontation between Katrien and the Charlton fan on the train. Everyone should have a look. She couldn't resist the sarcastic dig about "your favourite Curbishley". Not as nice as she looks.
Yoni Buyens should never be allowed anywhere near The Valley, or the first team coach. Given the glowing reference the Standard Liege fans gave of him, there is two things: 1. Standard Liege best is just not best enough for the English Championship 2. He's just a s*** player The more time goes on, the angrier I get about the club. I keep thinking, surely there's something that we can do, to gain some ownership of the club, to make our voices hear. Even if it is as simple as every fan doing two less away games in a season, and putting that money together to buy a % of the club. I reckon we could raise a Million, Million and half (20,000 fans donating £80 each). That should give us some clout and a platform to be heard.
i would not hand over £80 for other people (RD) to be making the decisions with how it is spent. i'm most definitely going to cancel my valley gold as i already believe the new regime see it as a means to make a profit before they sod off. and also because i think i sent one badly toned email about them not applying discount to my season ticket has meant that i've not won sod all, or been allowed on any of the fans days (i emailed 3 mins after the offer opened to get told no).
That's the beauty of it, we the people will decide what we do with it, NOT Roland Duchâtelet. If we do it every season, it's a reminder to him that there's a little piece of Charlton that he cannot touch. Also, if we raise that money, we can vote a spokes person, who should be able to sit on the board to, and thus keep the fans informed of what's going on.
