QPR fan in peace. Assuming it is Harry who take over from us... What should we expect? What did you get that turned your season around when in came in and drove you up the table. We seem to have a talented enough squad who have not gelled, are miserable and not motivated.... Also - who is he going to hate on our squad and who will he favour? And finally what is his fav formation to play - please not 442.,
Pro's Good exciting football with most of the players having confidence in themselves and each other He'll get the best out of certain players - some you never thought could play so well. You won't go down He'll turn your season around and give you something to build on. Cons He'll have his favourites and others will be left out in the cold He has history with Taaraabt, so that'll be interesting Doesn't rotate enough. - but as you guys aren't in europe, that probably won't be much of a problem. He talks to the press too much
When he arrived at WHL, we had 2 points from 8 games (as he frequently reminded us) and we looked a rabble despite the talent we clearly had. You'll quickly you will have a media darling as your manager and consequently your club will get higher media coverage and mostly favourable. As for players, well if he'd stayed with us, we would probably still have Ryan Nelsen here, so he might be ok. Adel Taarabt will be the interesting one as the only time Harry ever praised him was on the eve of a transfer window opening !!!! Like Hughes he tends to bring his tried and trusted with him, so you can expect to see Kevin Bond and Joe jordan on the touchline with him. I think he'll do very well for you, there's a mixture of players there which are Harry's type, a few good old pros if you know what I mean along with some decent young talent with some flair. I would expect he'll move for our Michael Dawson as he loves him and he's not gtting a game with us. Good Luck !!
Just don't bid for Dawson again. Sadly I think it's a more likely move if Harry takes over there. In many ways I'm wondering if you could only get one player, Dawson might be your best bet.
A great man manager (does have his favourites but his favourites usually do the business), someone that likes the philosophy of "we'll score more than you" so good entertaining and attacking football. He'll most likely bringing Bond & Jordan with him, Bond seems a good laugh and so the players well get on well with him and Jordan will bring the sturdiness to ensure they keep focused. He will expect to have money to spend so expect a few changes in January of new faces coming in (and probably going out). Like Spurcat mentioned, there's a good choice that (if he is appointed) you'll sign Michael Dawson, who with all due respect, is miles above any of your CB's and personally (and I'm sure many others) will be gutted to see him go as he's been a great servant to the club and always puts his body on the line for the cause, great leader too. If Harry does take charge of you I'll wish him nothing but the best. He's definitely leagues above Hughes and no doubt will lift you off the bottom providing he gets the right backing from Fernandes in January.
442's his favoured formation, preferably with a big man and a little fast man but he played 4411 when Levy bought him VDV so it'll be interesting to see whether he thinks he's got a player of enough quality to stick with that formation or whether he'll revert to 442. The latter seems the most likely though, he'll want to get everyone play a formation that they know well and that's the most common. He gets annoying with his constant talk to the media but I think he'll turn you around very quickly, you've got a lot of talent and experience which is what 'Arry likes and I have a feeling he'll get Cisse playing better too... that or he'll have a bust up with him.
Would you play Dawson and Nelson then as the CB's assuming he goes for him. Some goals would be a good thing to see round here. Would he go for Defoe or is he settled with you now and it's all paper talk?
You've got no chance of getting Defoe. AVB rates him highly and is his number 1 striker plus he recently signed a new deal, welcome to go for Dempsey though? I'm not sure who he'd start with Dawson but like I said, I can assure you he'll be a great signing
Good times ahead for QPR fans, if it hadn't been for the England managers mess i'm sure the majority of us would be happy to have him as our coach still. Not much to add on what others have said, can see him sparking some life into the likes of SWP, Hoillet and Cisse.
Harry likes grafters and has no time for prima donnas, picks the team and lets them express themselves. Great philosophy for good football and enjoyable games. He knows a player when he see one and prefers experience to 'kids'. From the perspective of 66 many look like kids. The down side for me with Harry is that he always puts himself first and spouts far too much to the media (hence their love for him) If you are not a Harry favourite as a player you will be outed to the media mercilessly. No doubts; he's a top football man and a couple of years from him should settle QPR at a good level. That's from a Spurs fan who is happy that he left.
He will get you organised and put round pegs in round holes. He will motivate the team (and I say team as he is not an effective squad manager) to beat people you shouldn't but you may be prone to losing against teams you shouldn't as well.. With the players available to you, you should finish mid-table from here. He is not much of a tactician and you will not have a plan b, so unless you have quality teams will work you out pretty quick. As for his wheeler dealer reputation, as far as we are concerned that is just not so. He had nothing to do with transfer business, you may get Dawson and possibly Huddlestone but Defoe is more of a regular than he has been for years, so any talk of him going is wide of the mark. His enthusiasm will turn the place around, especially after the dour Hughes. I wish him nothing but luck and just wish the England debacle hadn't interfered with what was going here.
You're getting the best man in the business to pull you out of the hole you are in. You have good players who are demoralised and under-achieving, and a squad that is fragmented as a result; Harry will have that sorted by your second game. Whether or not you survive the EPL this season, QPR is now going to be a much harder team to beat, for any club.
Exciting times for QPR. Couldn't get much worse right? Pro's: 1) Exciting free-flowing football that at times will leaks goals but overall, will be great to watch whether as a QPR supporter or not. 2) A manager who will get the best out of players and maybe find one or two gems in your squad you never realised you had 3) New faces in the form of some elder statesman who might have appeared finished, a few Spurs rejects no doubt and one or two marquee signings 4) Premier League football next season and beyond if he stays... if... Con's 1) Constant video interviews with Sky Sports, the press and BBC MOTD appearances 2) Speculation about the England job once the FA and the fans tire of yet more underachievement by England and Roy Hodgson 3) Use of the word "triffick!" all the time 4) Self-promotional talk and deflection when the spotlight is on him for all the wrong reasons. Where Harry is concerned, there's always a story and a media circus waiting just around the corner.
True, but I think most Saints fans will accept that the club was already being dragged down by Rupert Lowe and the board, at the time Harry was there. There wasn't really much more he could have done. QPR have a better squad than Saints had, and I believe there is more for Harry to work with.
What concerns me though is whether this may destabilise Spurs in the coming weeks. I predict constant speculation surrounding our players going to QPR for the next few months. How ironic that Harry could cause yet more problems for us and AVB yet he's not even our manager anymore. That would be typical of him wouldn't it!
