Bit of a question/ discussion for you all. As we know 4 players have been "promoted" into the first team. JWP, Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers and Jack Stephens, what kind of role do you see them playing throughout next season? Which of the 4 do you believe to have most potential and how soon do you estimate we may see one of/all of them regularly in a Saints shirt next season if at all? Personally, i see them in general being substitute backup for the beginning of this season. Although hard to predict i cant see more than 1/2 at a push making the bench and instead be backup for a injury within any of the positions and in turn move on to take a place on the bench behind more senior squad members. From what i've heard they're all developing well but the standout two for me are Shaw + Chambers. Both of them representing England throughout their youth, receiving good reviews also. Maybe by the end of this season 2/3 of them will be well in the first team picture and we can predict Mr Wenger (picture below) snooping around please log in to view this image
It took Walcott, Bale and Chamberlain only a year or so to make the full team regularly. Granted they were lower league players [oh yes they were] at the time, but I would suggest that youngsters of real merit would be knocking on the door of regular football after 2-3 seasons.
I've said elsewhere, goodness knows where exactly as there are so many threads, but I can't see any of them getting a first team place any time soon. They are not better than what we have already got and presumably we'll be buying 3 or 4 more. So breaking into the first team will be tough. The best they can hope for is one or two substitute appearances and maybe the odd cup game.
I think Stephens looks the most physically able and if he continues at right back then as it stands this is a position which is more up for grabs with Butterfields age and Richardsons injury record.
