As its a pritty good chance we will sign a striker in Jan i was woundering who you guys rekon would be most effective and realistic of course. I rekon that marvin emnes would be a good partner for sir rikki up front, he is the only player that stood out to me on Saturday
The only players that did stand out were from Middlesborough as they were gash. Saints players didn't stand out as they play like that most weeks. Players will be more than happy to join in Jan "IF" we allow them to. The answer to your question, Maynard, Sharpe, Sordell.
I think we will get Sharp (if the rumours are to be believed and the loan deal is a success) or somebody nobody has said from abroad. You have to remember that if we are still in or around the top 2 come Jan than player prices will go up from other Championship clubs, and generally players cost more in Jan anyway. Maynard, Sharp and Sordell's clubs all look like they could be in a relegation fight this season, so why would their respective clubs want to sell their main goal threat on the cheap? The Bristol City chairman has made it quite clear that he is happy for Maynard to go on a free when his contract is up at the end of the season, as he proved by rejecting Leicester's approaches in the summer. I don't think this will change in Jan as his goals could be the difference between staying up or going down. That only leaves one other option in the Championship in J Rodriguez. I don't know how long he has left on his contract, but if they were rejecting 4/5 mill bids in the summer I don't see why they would be fine with him going in Jan for a similar fee. Basically if we want a player from a Championship club I think we will have to pay a premium
Maynard, Sharp or Zaha, anyone of those would be a quality signing. Think Makhail-Smith would have been brilliant for us but missed the boat on that one.
To be a Prem class striker, surely you have to be proven in the Premiership. None of the names being mentioned so far are proven in the Premiership.
There were two parts to the question though. "Premiership class" was one, but then so was "realistic". The amount of striker who fit into both categories (and are under the age of 35, Kevin Phillips cough cough) are minimal, and hence I focused solely on the "realistic" part.
Billy Sharp Actually, i'm a big fan of Marvin Sordell of Watford aswell - I reckon he could develop into a very good striker in the not too distant future. His got the pace and the ambition, he just needs to work on his weaknesses, if he does that, he'll be excellent.
I'm glad we didn't sign Mackail-Smith I don't rate him at all - misses far too many chances. However, Maynard, Sharp or Zaha will do just fine for me.
Zaha has looked quality from what i've seen, and in the 10 mins he was on the pitch against us last week he left harding on the floor twice. looks very good does that boy, so would take him. doubt palace would sell on the cheap though.
I'd give Mackail-Smith 10 out of 10 for work rate, but you're right, he just isn't clinical enough at this level.
Ashley Grimes as 5th backup for Guly and Lambert after Barnard and Connolly. In other words.Another Striker?????????? Why???????????
I haven't seen enough of the other championship strikers to choose a Sharp/Maynard/Rodrigues/Sorvel and can't think of a premier league one we'd realistically get. We may have a foreign based player in mind. I'm sure Nigel will get it right.
Have we all forgot about Charlie Austin too! We tried to get him but Burnley snatched him away, since then the mighty premiership outfit have as expected, hit the rocks and now lie well below us and he would have realised what a toilet Burnley actually is The other striker to consider is Rhodes for Udders who is young and something to prove
