It sounds like Rigg has been looking at lining up loans already, and of course we have to be aware of FFP rules. Where do you think we need to get players in for. I think it has to be defensive midfield players as priority. I was hoping that Mattila would have played there, but there seems to have been injury problems? I don't think Parker is good enough still. Another winger ?, Kacaniklic (apart from the Rotherham game) has never acted like a true winger. There is George Williams who will probably be going with Wales to the Euros. Pringle and Cairney aren't wingers. Fredericks seems adaptable but his crossing on the run is suspect. I also think a center half who is built like a brick-house Ream seems very light weight against a bullying Center forward and he lacks speed to be a full back.
Agree with all that SuperBri and especially on the defensive midfielder - which we both, along with just about every other fan, have highlighted for at least the last two seasons. Ream as you say is light weight and while good with the ball on the floor, is poor in the air. So left back suits him better. However, as I said in the 'Rotherham' thread I was not at all impressed about his inability to tackle and he rarely makes any forward runs. So Jimmy Husband must surely (again) be on the list of loans. Still a bit uncertain how the 'people in the office' as Joka puts it, will manage to bring in the quality players we need however. While the embargo allows us to sign someone on loan, we are prohibited from paying a loan or agent's fee and the salary can't exceed £600k. That this last one may be less of an issue but the first two I would have thought most definitely will be. Also there is the other ruling which I definitely don't understand and that is, something to do with us only being able to bring in a new player if we have a squad of fewer than 24 players. Grateful if anyone can explain that.
At the moment we have a squad of 29 players but that is with a few U21s and a few 21 year olds included, if you take them out then we might have a Squad of about 22 if that is what you are allowed to do, giving us 2 spaces we can fill with loans. If not I think we can still take players who are on a free.
Looking at the detailed table it is obvious what we need - defenders and defensive midfield. We are the league's top scorers by 2 or 3 goals but only 2 sides have conceded more. A reasonable defence and we move up the league.
As discussed before I really don't think our squad needs to much to fix it, I honestly believe we have the quality in the squad to be up the top of this division but we do need is to get the balance of the team fixed as it hasn't been good for years, this could be through formation, mentality but most importantly a DEFENSIVE midfielder. Please commanding strong, mops everything up, a Dickson Etuhu five years ago. Funnily enough when we played Brentford a few weeks ago I thought there def mid Diagouraga was the best player on the pitch and exactly what we are missing, Ironically if the press is to be believed we were chasing him in the summer as well.
