I have been wanting to make this thread for a few weeks but didn't want to tempt fate and waited until we had guaranteed safety. Now is not the time to be sentimental and this summer several players will need to move n if we are to progress to the next stage and become a stronger and deeper team. Current first team players will likely need to drop to the bench when better player are brought in and that will make our team much better. As much as I like players like Meyler if we are to progress then better players need to be brought in and the bench needs to be made stronger. I believe a few players may be fortunate enough to stay that would have perhaps left had we not been in Europe. We may also struggle to keep hold of our better players such as Huddlestone and Davies. Players to leave? Stephen Quinn Paul McShane Maynor Figueroa Abdoulaye Faye Nick Proschwitz Cameron Stewart Eldin Jakupović
Barring Quinn and Figueroa, I think all the players mentioned will be gone. Players like Quinn are good enough for the PL, they just aren't as good as Livermore or Thudd and therefore aren't going to get into the team. I think Macca will also stay on. I think Koren will leave, he'll want first team football and with European football next season, we'll be bringing in better quality players. Alex Bruce will probably get loaned out at some point next season, until injury necessitates he hasn't been able to force his way into his Dad's plans ahead of Chester or Davies. On the youth front, Henderson's deal expires in Summer and he hasn't done anything of note, so I expect he'll leave. Others expring are: Matthew Fletcher - probably gone too Henry Gill - Not bad, but probably hasn't done enough Calaum Jahraldo-Martin - can't see him getting a new deal Elliott Kebbie - The lad we signed from Athletico Madrid, has he done enough? Jonathon Margetts - Goals for Gainsborough should see him get at least another year Dougie Wilson - Not really sure what's happened here, he didn't even go out on loan. Probably leave. James Armstrong - Gone Of the youths approaching professional contract time, I expect Ryan Fallowfield, Leon Dawson, Eoghan McCawl, Max Clark, Rory Watson and Alex Penny to get deals.
how about not tempting fate for a couple more weeks since there's a chance a couple of the players you want to dump could be playing at wembley?
Quinn, McShane & Figgsy will be here next season unless we sign a lot of players, Koren will be gone along with the rest of the ones you posted, maybe even Fryatt if he decides he wants first team football over bench warming in the PL.
Would keen Quinn, McShane and Fig, all are good enough to play PL when on song and at the least will be good players to have for Cups/Europa.
Upgrading at LB has to be a priority. Figueroa isn't the answer and should go and Dudgeon's fitness is questionable. Koren will be allowed to move to a Championship team. Stewart and Proschwitz will go. I'd definitely keep Quinn and McShane. Harper is a big question mark for me. Fryatt is on the bubble but has impressed on his few appearances. I think Bruce will let Aluko go if we get a decent offer. Can't see Faye staying.
I think the Management have got players ear-marked for next season and will be doing some wheeling and dealing, as we speak, within the financial infrastructure as laid down by Mr Allam's Bean-Counters. We are in a position where we cannot possibly carry any passengers but by the same argument we will need to strengthen our depth. McGregor will hopefully recover and be back as No.1 next season and I think Harper has acquitted himself as No.2 but could go if another established EPL Goalkeeper became available at a reasonable price and wage. Figueroa, Faye, Proschwitz, Stewart, Jakupovic, Quinn and Koren will all be moving on whereas Fryatt will look at his options (which I believe will come in the shape of an offer from a Championship Club for regular first team football). McShane is a solid reserve and would get his fair share of games off the bench (imo) as would Meyler who is just a sandwich short of a picnic at this level. If an offer comes in for Aluko he will jump at it whilst Sagbo just hasn't got it at this level but I don't know how long is contract is for. Brady's season has been slaughtered by injuries so we haven't really seen what he can do but another attacking midfielder might be on the books.. The facts are that we need a quality Left Side Defender, maybe a Central Defender, another 'engine' in midfield, and without doubt another striker who can reach double figures by the end of the season as we are sadly lacking in goals. Jelly and Long should get their fair share next season with 16 - 20 goals between them (hopefully) but we need just a little more depth in quality up front. As I said on another thread with reaching Europe we could well attract a better quality player (more likely on loan) so it should be a very interesting close season.
Stewart's already gone, he got a three year deal at Leeds starting in the summer. Faye will be released, Proschwitz will be sold/loaned to anyone who'll take him and Koren will also probably be released, probably also Jakupovic. Fryatt will be offered a new deal, but might leave to get regular football, McShane will stay and the positions of Figgy and Quinn(possibly Boyd) will be entirely dependant on who else we want to bring in and what interest we get in them. I'd have Bruce top of the out list, along with Proschwitz, but he's just been given another year, so won't be going anywhere.
Koren, Prozzy, Faye, Jak are more than certainly going Fryatt would depend on who is monitoring him. I think someone like Reading or maybe even Wolves might be a good fit, but would be good back up if he's happy to continue in that role. Can't see anyone else leaving, Quinn & Boyd will be part of next seasons squad
Out of that list I only see McShane & Quinn staying. They will get plenty of games with Europa league coming up. Macca is needed for when Chester is injured. We can't sell Superman.
Fryatt, Quinn, Proshwitz, Faye, Bruce, Jakupovic, Figueroa. All Championship players or relegation premier league players. Therefore better replacements are required. No good signing up forth choices for another season when you need to improve.
Fryatt, Quinn, Boyd, Figueroa and Mcshane to stay i'd imagine - decent squad players if not PL starting 11 i'm sure they are good enough for some of the European opposition and the early rounds of the domestic cups. Faye, Proschwitz and Jakupovic I expect to leave permanently. I expect Bruce to stay on, but hopefully he'll fill Faye roll as a real emergency option and we'll bring in a numb 'starting' cb to play along side Davies and Chester. I think Koren is all dependant on what he wants and who else we can bring in, i'm really bot bothered either way. Players in - A CB, LB, DM (Vogt or Colback?), M/AM (Lewis Holtby?) W (Salah on loan maybe?)
I'd get another keeper and release Harper. With McGregors injury record we need a decent number 2 and we seem to concede loads with Harper in goal and lose most games*. He hardly saves anything, often seems absolutely nowhere near saving the shots that go in and his lack of skill on the ball harms our passing game from the back. I know we're a bit spoilt with McGregor but the difference between the two is too great imo. *Anyone know the numbers? Bet it's no better than the Bruce stat.
Figgy has been abysmal since the New Year and with out doubt is on Bruceys list to replace and we need back up in a few areas not only for the league but also our foray into Europe,we are in it so we might as well try and get so far in it. Trouble is will Bruce get the money from the Allams to strengthen.
Agree with this to an extent. I'm a fan of Harper but he's passed his best and has been exposed somewhat in the last few games. He's still capable of great saves (eg V Fulham he essentially made sure we won a point) and I'm glad we signed him but we need to look else where. I'd suggest a new reserve keeper, Harper as 3rd choice and do some youth/coaching and let Jakupovic go.
None... other than maybe Jakupovic and Proschwitz(but only if we can get a reasonable fee for Nick). Keeping the team/squad unity will be key for next season.imo. If it aint broke then why fix it ? We just need to add more quality to what we have already and SB is already well on with that - i suspect - regardless of what he says in public.
If I've done my numbers correctly it's this... 11 league app, won 3, lost 7, drew 2, conc 20 goals. 4 FA cup app, won 4, lost 0, conc 4 goals. 2 Cap 1 cup app, won 2, lost 0, conc 0 goals. Some will be sub app's if numbers don't quite add up!
