It seems that our defence is still likely to leak goals at any time. So, what players form the best back four and in what position? We have Martin, Klose, Bassong, Whittaker, Wisdom, Olsson, Bennett, Pinto (and Brady?) There are other U21 players who are described as defence on the Norwich City website, but are they like to figure in this best back four? Are there players out on loan (easily recalled) who might figure in the best back four? Is it time to rethink our defence?
Id like a regular: Martin, Klose, Bassong, Brady At the moment, as we need decent defenders and experience. If we are just going down with the wimper it seems: Martin, Klose, Bennett, Brady
Wisdom. Bennett Klose. Brady (would rather see him further forward but Ollson is a liability at the moment)
Pity we can't recall him - we definitely need a decent LB. Olsson has been awful this season and needs to be sold/loaned.
Problems are a) he keeps changing them way too often, so forming a partnership with an understanding is difficult and b) they are so erratic and porous that they require one if not two DMs in front of them - which stifle or limits creativity further up the pitch. Look at Naismith yesterday, for the first hour the only way he got a touch of the ball was to drop back into our half of the pitch!
Perhaps we need more than 4... 3x CBs - Klose, Bassong and Bennett allowing Pinto and Brady more freedom in the FB positions. Could play in the "W" formation with the central CB dropping back when one of the FB's takes off forward. I thought at the beginning of the season that Mulumbu might drop into that shape nicely as DM but still in that "W" formation too.
Having now shipped 21 goals in 7 matches an average of 3 per game I would suggest that none of our defenders are PL class. That is a shocking statistic and also IMO an embarrassing and disgusting one. Many on here and in the local media think we should stick by AN if and when we go down, but should we really if we keep conceding so many goals week in and week out ? Things need a freshen up, confidence is on the floor and regardless of what anyone alse says it's imperative that we survive, relegation would be a disaster. After Saturday I really can't see where our next win is coming from but I also believe with a more experienced man at the helm there are enough games left for us to survive. No room in football for sentiment WHATSOEVER, thanks for the ride Mr Neil here's your P45 ! #lightsbluetouchpaper
I think you may find yourself in somewhat of a minority on this one, KIO - but I guess you fully expected that? So, while you the righter of wrongs, would you care to suggest who this mystery man could or should be given that most managers without a position are there because they've failed dismally at other clubs?
Fair comment KIO and I agree with the statistics - there are lies, damn lies and statistics. Our defence has been shocking and whilst I (and many others) at times disagree with AN's team selection (especially in defence), I'm in the 'let's keep AN' camp, as my view is that the players selected are failing in their duties to protect whoever is in goal and giving opposing players too much space. I just hope that something is done over the next 2 weeks in an effort to arrest our defensive frailities. #let'skeepAN
Olsson was mainly responsible for us dropping 2 points v Hammers. His careless loss of (fairly unchallenged) possession deep in our half triggered one of the goals, and as we know 2 - 1 looks a whole lot better than 2 - 2 at the final analysis. We need Toffolo back or a new LB of the required callibre.
While Olsson invites them to roam and have space on the right hand edge of our penalty area? I don't think so!
