"Looking at the centre-backs, one was playing right-back and the other on the left not so long ago! They are two centre-backs and I think Simon was biding his time until it was felt he could use them together." What does that mean? Why was he biding his time and why was it not felt that he could use them together before? While he was biding his time we conceded 18 goals in 11 games.
I was thinking the same. maybe he means he was waiting to see if kisnorbo was going to get back to form before he opted for this partnership
But you should be able to tell from training and the pre-season games whether Kisnorbo can get back to form. O'Brien started the season and Bromby played there before he opted for the Lees/O'Dea partnership as a last throw of the dice. I actually think Kisnorbo or Bromby would be better than O'Dea anyway.
I like Bromby and he was solid last year when called upon, but his display against Brighton really has ****ed his chances of playing for LUFC again IMO
Eddie Gray, Simon Grayson , Peter Lorimer are all great puppets for Bates They are in a situation where they have to talk a load of Bollox and risk damaging their reputation all because they are getting paid by that fat silly old ****
Good article Clive. Unfortunately, when it comes to media, people like Eddie feel obliged to be yes men. It would not have been good PR if he had have said, it hadn't been a good idea playing a cb as a rb.
O'Dea was piss poor against Brighton as well & kept his place. It was Bromby's first poor game in a while, usually he's solid & dependable. When O'Dea's found wanting again(he hasn't been up against the most potent of strike forces in the last 3 games),I'm sure Bromby will get his chance again. I hate to say it,but I've a feeling this new found 'tightened' defence is a false dawn. Peterborough will be a huge test for our defence,a clean sheet against a free-scoring Posh will be a much bigger achievement than stopping powder puff Pompey at home & Donny away.
I think O'Dea is like Collins last season. He makes the players around him look bad and they lose their place while he keeps his. Look how much better Naylor looked when he came back in after Collins had gone. I think it could be the same with Kisnorbo. Bromby is unlucky, Brighton is the only poor game I can think of him having for us. Grayson keeps having to turn back to him when his latest signing ends up being so bad he has no choice but to drop him. Eddie Gray talks sense up to a point, then he'll hold back to defend Grayson and make himself look stupid. It could well be a false dawn, Essex, but we still look better with two proper full backs and Tom Lees looks promising.
