I have been away for the last 4 weeks, and decided not to look up the not 606 pages.
So on my return i thought lets check all the gossip columns, previous pages to see who we have signed. Me "Thinks" Tevez , Messi, Scott Parker ,Landon Donovan, Charlie Adam.Hutton, & maybe Vidic.

Zilch ~ A free goalkeeper, and maybe a veteran left back.
Worse still, I see we are lumbered with free goalscoring AJ & Salcido.
And what of our pre season.~ a not impressive win against a team of cod fisherman,
and a defeat against the newest member of the league.
I have seen scanning the last 2 days papers, that the likes of Sunderland,Stoke Wolves
and even Swansea are bidding and buying.

I think we're all a little frustrated with the lack of transfers in and out of the Cottage, but there are mitigating circumstances. Such as the fact that our season has already started, and our manager's only been (fully) in the job for what, a week? They'll come in a good time.

    Welcome back Val,

Been a strange few weeks. I think we all thought that there would be a transfer frenzy will Jol arriving. However, upon reflection I think that Jol is simply getting to used to the players he has at his disposal. I hope that he looking closely at the senior players and the youngsters.

As for the games so far:

Fulham vs Runavik - I watched probably 35 mins of this game and for what it is worth I felt we played really well. We passed the ball around nicely, created a lot of chances and won the game 3 - 0. This was the first week back for most of the players and fitness looked good. Runavik are half way through their season so were match fit and it showed in the first half.

Runavik vs Fulham - Listened on the radio and it sounded like we were just comfortable to protect what we had. Once again created plenty of chances and did not sound like we were going to concede. 0 - 0 was not flattering but we got through. Job done.

AFC WIMBLEDON vs Fulham - Murphy, Hughes and Baird played, other than that it was pretty much a youth team. Yes, we should of done better but Jol will hopefully know a few things about the players after that game. The young players are not quite ready. He has stated that they need to go out on loan. He is also trying to set up a link with a dutch team to get these players playing there.

All in all, I think he is doing exactly what he should be. Taking his time to see what is needed. We are being linked to Bentner, who as much as I do not particularly like the guy's attitude, is young and a quality player. I think we will get players in but only if Jol thinks they are the right players. No need to rush just yet, still early days.

I have a feeling we're going to have signed another few goalkeepers before August, but that doesn't mean it'll happen <laugh>

But seriously, I think Big Maarty will want to add a few new faces, especially as he has the best part of two months of the window left. Not to mention he said a little while back that we need to get a few younger players in.

Does anyone know what happened to all the El Hamdaoui (or however you spell his name), forward from Ajax, speculation? Apparently he had one foot in the door.

I'm with you Bidley - Happy to give Mr Jol a bit of time to import some players in the key positions.

Welcome back RF - Been anywhere nice?

The lack of signings suggests one of two scenarios to me:

First, there's no money to spend. (I doubt this is the case as Jol would not come to a club without resources.)
Second, Jol's phone has not yet been hacked and he's searching for new players in places where the UK press doesn't have many contacts. I'm feeling the frustration, too, but I think we have to be patient.

May be Jol it trying to get rid-off a few inflated wages (AJ for example).

Not worried. We all know the areas we need strengthening and Jol better than us.

Has it crossed your mind that he might be waiting to see if we get through these 2-3 qualifying rounds?

Madness ... I think the Euro League qualifying is a factor, but even without the potential for 20 extra games, we still clearly need players, particularly at the back. I've been wrong before, but I suspect he's searching for players in Belgium, Germany and further east, areas where the UK newspaper gossip apparatus doesn't reach.

Jol's looking - he has to be. He's just searching further afield than, say, Scott Parker's house.

Welcome back Valjing, I wondered if you were off globetrotting. Did you take Rocky with you? He's not been around for a while.

Not much to report, as you say, on signings, but look on the bright side - at least we've still got AJ!

You're dreaming about him now - this is really getting to you, isn't it Valjing?

You may have missed this in your absence, but AJ was on the score sheet in the first game against Runavik, so your prophetic status is unsmirched - your dream did come true. Any chance of dreaming up a 10-0 first leg against Crusaders?
