Bristol City: Agard's Future Raises Questions. Keiron Agard, once on the books of Arsenal and Everton as a youth player, lit up League One for Rotherham, scoring 21 goals in the Millers’ promotion campaign. On the back of that success, Leeds United had a bid accepted by the South Yorkshire side and looked likely to sign the free-scoring then 25-year-old. However, a failure to agree terms saw the transfer fail to make it over the line. Instead, Agard chose to drop down a division and play for Bristol City in their 2014/15 League One campaign, a campaign that saw the Robins promoted to the Championship and the striker score 13 times, laying on seven assists. Agard’s decision to drop down a division “But, wow – you turn down Leeds United and drop a league and go to Bristol City. That is no disrespect to Bristol City, but I am surprised.” After his 13-goal season, following on from a 21-goal season previously for Rotherham, much was expected of Agard this season for Bristol City. He hasn’t delivered. The forward has played only 24 times this season; in his last eight games the striker has been on the bench for six games – making only a single 7 minute appearance and has not made the squad for the last two. The latter omissions from the squad, games against Derby and Blackburn, have raised questions over his future at Ashton Gate. please log in to view this image The Bristol Post say that manager Lee Johnson prefers options other than Agard saying: “Lee Johnson has preferred either top scorer Jonathan Kodjia or Aaron Wilbraham as the loan forward up top, while Stoke City Peter Odemwingie has been the man warming the bench as cover for the two main strikers.” With options already being played ahead of him at Bristol City, Agard’s time at Ashton Gate could very well be coming to an end. http://the72.co.uk/52853/bristol-city-agards-future-raises-questions/
In my opinion, he does not have enough ball control quality for the Championship. It is a big step up from League One.
That may turn out to be the case but you don't get on the books of Arsenal or Everton if, in the words of the great Bill Shankley,"he couldn't trap a bag of cement"...
He's got pace but he's down the pecking order from Kodjia. Lee Johnson will set out how he wants to play next season and build a squad to play that way. If Kodjia doesn't go or Lee Johnson doesn't want to play in a way using him then he'll be gone
I must admit I would place him and Odemwinge ahead of Wilbs in the pecking order. I love Wilbs, but I do fear his legs are going and he can't keep up for 90 minutes in the Championship any more.
I think, in the right setup, Agard could do a decent job, but maybe he doesn't quite have the talent to be a starter for a Championship side with ambitions any higher than a mid-table finish. Wilbs' physical presence maybe makes him a more effective impact sub, so for his own good, perhaps Agard moving to a top-end League One side might be the best for all involved, provided the price was right and a replacement was signed. I'm still intrigued by Arnold Garita - I think, more likely than not, he won't come good, but there's always the hope that maybe he'll prove to be a diamond in the rough. Now that we've mathematically secured survival, perhaps he'll be given a bit more game time...
