Having a look at the fixtures list for the rest of the season http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/fixtures , I think that if we beat chelsea and arsenal (both at home), then we have the better set of fixtures to overcome that one-point game we would have between us and both of them.

I would have thought that Chelsea would be our main rivals to 4th, but after Arsenal's trumping of Spurs, I reckon they're the more worrying outfit, with RVP in some ridiculous form. Our game against them this weekend is absolutely crucial.

I also think we should prioritize getting 4th over winning the FA cup. Obviously I'd love both, but if the cup threatens our chances of winning the league, then I'd happily sacrifice it.

    Any thoughts?

You wont get 4th because you will continue to drop points vs the bad sides. You need goal scorers. At the moment you dont have any. You need wide men who get goals and you need a striker who gets goals. So the games vs us and chavs are important but wont matter for you. You are only good when sides come onto you.

Well while arsenal4life you might be right i could apply the self same logic to your side as well. dn't get cocky cos you stuffed the spuds (and we're all chuffed you did i'm sure)

there is nothing spearating 4th form 7th really... arsenal fans know that for sure...

The newb is right about the two big teams to be played shortly, if we win boht somehow it'll put a big dent in the points gap for usre.

my attitude is to sacrifice nothing at this point. win all you can, its the mentality thats required. play every game ike its the last, take every possible point and trophy going.

We need to beat Chelsea and Arsenal and do well in our remaing home games too. Chelsea and Arsenal when they meet need to be a draw.
Also when Tottenham play Chelsea..Tottenham need to beat Chelsea. If we can collect maximum points at home and win at least three games
away, we can get 4th position.<ok>

How could you be happy that the spuds were beaten by L'Arse?

No because we have goals in our side so we have the potential to go on a good run. Whereas you boys dont have that potential because you are always going to be in close games and dropping points to crappy sides. You might beat us next week and then get a couple of draws vs bottom half sides. That isnt going to get you into the top 4 from your current position.

You need a world class centre forward and a top draw wide player who can get goals. You should probably get demba ba for his buyout in the summer and also try and find a wide man from somewhere.

You too need a striker for when Van Persie leaves - Torres perhaps? Stranger things have happened!

If we beat Liverpool next week, we will be 10 points ahead of them with 11 games to go, albeit having played a game more. Just a thought.

arsena4 life... do i need to go pull out all the times you've been woeful this year... leave the potential aside and jog on if oyu can't admit we can go on as good as run as you lot anyday.. especially seeing we've been bouncing round trading positions half the year!

joker..... arsneal could beat us at anfield then lose the next two just like you've said about us... talk about a guy who won't see the fatal flaws (not can't just won't)

RHC, why can i be happy arsenal tonked spuds? come on old bean..... the arrogant spurs fans and happy harry "worlds greatest manager" press had to shut up for once... I laughed bloody hard i can tell you when they were sunk.....

Roll on the end of pointless midweek internationals... roll on the next game!

and another thought is if we beat ze gooners we'll end up 4points off them with games in hand (after stoke) where upon wenger will impode with fury on the sideline. its all ifs and buts til it happens.

you guys flooding on here just cos you got 4th for the first time in ages this year won't change the fact that there's still games to be played here.

Going back to the OP - we had over 40 shots last night and the score was still 2-2.

We didn't have that many clear cut chances but we really need to be more clinical if we want to get 4th.

One thing that we have that neither Chelsea or Arsenal have - we already have a trophy! As Ruffian said on the Banter thread that's a monkey off our backs.

The Spurs game proved that whilst RvP is playing very well, there are huge holes in their defence. Even with our problem in converting chances if they play like that against us we will surely stick a few in their 'old onion bag'.

As for Chelsea then again the problems that are facing are not going to go away on the back of 1 result.

So, all things considered, it's game on.

Would be more worried about your own team, RVP will be offski in the summer, that's if he does not get injured first. One man band.

Look mate I wasnt wumming this thread. I find it hard to believe that you scousers disagree with me saying you need a centre forward and a wide man. You have a solid base to your team. WIth your back line and keeper and centre midfeild of gerrard and lucas you have a good base. You just need a big time striker and a star wide man. Then you will be a good bet for top 4 next year.

Most sensible liverpool fans will agree with that assessment. There is alot of evidence this year that with a good striker and 1 other good forward player you would probably be in the top 4 right now.

I do think that with the right team selection and application we can avoid dropping points against the bad sides. If Downing can commit his full back more often like he did yesterday, added to not having Jordan Henderson on the right flank, we can stretch teams a bit more and create better chances.

Fair one, been saying the same for months, right winger, centre forward, and a centre mid and we will be there. Phase 1 of the rebuild was clearing dead wood and bulking out the squad. Phase 2 needs to be adding world class players. Your Cavani's and Hazzards....

Only because they're more direct competition for us thn the spuds. Apart from that 'minor' point, I concur.
