Blackburn upending Arsenals trophy hopes makes it six in a row for Michael Appleton showing what he can achieve with improved talent. Its so unfortunate that he never was able to achive that end with his time with you guys.
I wouldn't get too ahead of yourself, mate! He did really, very well at Pompey. He kept us around the 15th position mark, which, in context, was a remarkable achievement. Yes, he wasn't knocking Arsenal out the cup with us, but that's being excessive! I think he did very well for us. As for Guy Whittingham- he really is a shambles. The only reason he did well last time was that he was playing top quality players in the formation 4-4-2- something Cotterill refused to do. When Guy switched them to 4-4-2, we did very well. I'm not saying Guy should be making us do well- on the contrary- but he should have at least salvaged one win from the past 21 games!
I'm not for one moment saying he didnt do well with the talent he had available and the constraints put on him by the club being in administration - he never was available to show what he could have achieved with Portsmouth.
I agree although I think it will be with Blackburn even if promotion via the play-offs may be a bit difficult this season. Looking ahead further, you would have to argue that he is good enough to be a future England manager . With the resources available at Portsmouth, he would have turned Portsmouth around but I think he was always destined for better things - even if it is debateable whether Blackburn Rovers are as bit a club at Portsmouth are / should be.
