Pondering about Sunderland players paying back the support that traveled the length of the country to watch a rather gutless performance, I asked myself the following: a) Why should fans be compensated? If the game is cancelled, fair enough. The beauty of football is that you never know what to expect from your team, you follow in blind faith. Hence the term fan (fanatic)... So why should fans who willingly give their money to watch their side play be entitled to any form of remuneration? The match is just one part of these pilgrimages. b) I'm a Newcastle fan, why aren't the players paying for us all to have season tickets? Seeing as they play ****e every week... c) What is the limit that has to be crossed before it's socially acceptable for them to be compensated? Is it ok for fans to watch a 5-0 gutless performance, but as soon as the 6th, 7th, 8th goes in, that's too far? Is it just a case of embarrassment (in which case how much does my ex owe me for laughing when I pulled down my pants? )? Embarrassment having traveled so far? d) What should fans be compensated for? Here's some of my suggestions: 1. When the hot chocolate machine has served a billion people by the time you get there, and all it lazily sloshes out for you is some slightly discoloured boiling water. ****ing disgrace. 2. An own goal is anti-the-objective, so fans should be compensated each time their team scores one. Supporting Sunderland would become a terrific investment 3. Having Sam Allardyce as your manager. 4. If your goal-scorer doesn't celebrate a goal "out of respect" he's being disrespectful to his new club AND his old club (you've scored against them, that's the part that matters, now ****ing go ape-****-happy about it). Any more?
Losing is part and parcel of supporting any football club. Getting spanked like Sunderland did is the risk you take going to a football game.
I agree with this. Nothing should force the players to refund the fans. However, the players themselves can decide to issue refunds if they feel they didn't give 100%.
Which is the case. It was an idea put forward by the players and will be implemented by the players. No mention of the delays caused by putting in a big screen that large sections of the stadium won't see. The knock effects will have cost people more money than an away game that was logistically faultless.
Welllllll........ After 90% of Sunderland's population took to twitter to verbally abuse them And I agree about the big screen debacle, I said as much on our match thread It's not even large sections... It's 75% of the ground... And the other 25% have to sit their nervously hoping it doesn't squash them!!!
Its not as if anyone was holding a gun to their heads, protesting with their bed sheets or rioting in the streets, holding mock funerals etc. People saying something stupid on twitter shocker. Why has BBC1 not reporting on this breaking news!
It wouldn't matter if they were holding a gun to Vito's head to be honest, he couldn't stop a shot if it was directed at him from 1mm away
Personally i would ban anyone who asked for a refund from all football grounds worldwide. As has been said, if you cant support your club in its lows then **** off.
Making it fair to footballers, who apparently feel some sort of moral conscience regarding not giving 100%, how about fans who walk out early or don't contribute to chanting get forced to pay extra? Those people should be lumped in the same boat for me
