Very few players ever achieve the accolade of fans favourite for one reason or another. I wonder who we would consider in that category for city. I would certainly put Brian Clark down, Tony Evans and Adrian Alston They do not have to be the most skilful, but the fans love a trier. Early Chopra maybe, Ross McCormack anyone? Phil Dwyer and Don Murray from decades past! Help me out here folks!
My dad always go`s on about a player from his early days as a city fan ,Peter King was his name and he used to train my dads youth team in his spare time ,he always says what brilliant fella he is and a cracking winger . My fav are a lot nearer to date and Bellamy has to stand out a mile as a Kardiff lad coming home .
Commitment and giving of one's best. You can forgive someone for not being the best but endeavour appeals to everyone. Add a bit of flair and something special and it's a bonus. Alongside Joe Dwyer, Paul Went was one of my favourites, allways gave 100%. John Buchannan was a grafter but also had a connon of a shot and scored some speactacular goals. Ronnie Moore never lived up to his goal scoring prowess elsewhere but never stopped running. Leo, Legg, and others always gave of their best even if it wasn't as good as some would have liked.
Peter King a good call John, not certain that Bellamy has convinced all yet, but promotion would guarantee it!
Agree with those, interesting how Ronnie Moore achieved it, but he did. I bet someone will nominate Eddie Johnson!
Trier - Ronny Bird Consistent - Peter King Battler - Don Murray Bruiser - Phil Dwyer Flair - Greg Farrell Game-changer - Ian Gibson Reliable - Mel Sutton Allround nice guy - Brian Clark (sorry their all a bit older generation for some on here) EDIT: - please add Bang-'em-in - Carl Dale
Almost choked when I read Trier for poor Ronnie, described him perfectly, would like to add Creator - Barrie Jones to the list. Surprisingly given Toshacks scoring success he never had the 'charisma' of other players of the time.
Fans tend to favour someone who is not aloof or above himself, someone who they regard as one of their own, Robin Friday is possibly one of my favourite players as you never knew what you were going to get - but on his day he would have the whole of Ninian Park behind him . Sadly not with us anymore and sadly not with City long enough either but still have good memories (and a couple of bad onesd) of the guy
Mel Sutton, bloody hell forgot all about him, in no particular order Phil Dwyer, the Bennett brothers, Ronnie Moore, John Buchanan, Billy Ronson (he was a titch as well), Paul Went, Earnie, Blakey, Legg, I could go on and on, in fact I like all players who give that bit more and play for the team.
