What makes a big club? The support? The trophies? The size of stadium? The history? Or 12,000 gates in the championship?
I see what you're doing, but I found you and so will he. I think a big club has a proud history, but also a future. Has large gates even in times of trouble and has potential to get even bigger. It helps if they're called Southampton FC.
Southampton big club in my heart thats all that matters to me,,History ,stadiums trophy,s and financial backing make a big team ,,so on those points we just lack the trophies. But judging by last 125 years don't see that changing,,so small team
I'm beginning to think you are a SkateinOz...we were in the top league for 27 years and have large support. We are at least a mid-sized club...small enough to be regarded as a family club (i.e. generally our fans live in the area..no offense, just not like Chelsea or ManU) and large enough to finance a real push for success. I truly believe we are at the start of great things for this club.
Things change, you can't say it's not gonna happen in the future because it hasn't happened in the past,i know where you are coming from but small club? really?
Skateinoz that's not nice,,50 years I've supported saints through thick and thin and living near London got picked on mercifully at school as only saints supporter now to be insulted by a fellow fan ,, I'm wounded. SKATE !!! Does anyone know what funds we have behind us ? I keep hearing about how secure we are but no figures have been mentioned and with Marcus sadly gone hoe secure is funds ?
Yep small team in the realm of things,,,who outside saints supporters think of us as a big club. Eerrr that would be no one,,if you go to any other town or city and try and find a saints top in sports shop not a chance in hell ,that's just the way things are and as vie said what's wrong in being a small club ? Big ambitions yes realism too
Your point about not buying Saints things outside Southampton is also true of most clubs. Only a few clubs have wider appeal. Reminds me of visiting a china stall in Portsmouth recently. They sold hand-painted mugs, plates and glasses with football club names on them. When asked if they could help me, I said, 'Don't suppose you can I support Saints'. She said, 'I've got some under the counter.' Felt like I was buying a dirty magazine.
Big club? perhaps around 40k prem, around 30k Championship, around 20k Div 1. High attendances usually denote a history, and some sucesss, albeit in the past. Perhaps towards end of the season we will coould be a 'big club' - maybe we could be average sized in the Prem perhaps with WH and the Foxes next season?
Couldn't give a **** if we're a big club or not, if you want to support a big club go to Man United etc. Southampton is OUR club, big or small it doesn't matter.
Yeah, but there's always bigger fish patrolling the seas...Swansea, QPR, Wigan etc are surely minows in the PL, and Bolton and Blackburn would be struggling for a 16k catch off the Championship
