A lesson from Bruce on organisation and how to win a game through it. He did it the last time we met in the Premier League down here - that day they blew us away with similar tactics that got them 4 goals. We played as well as we have so far this season but we met a side with a plan and the ability to deliver it. No excuses - if you get as much possession as that and fail to do anything with it, then you'll come off second best every time against a side like Hull. The penalty shouts were justified and had one or two been given it could have given us a boost. As it was, it needed that boost to come from the touchline management and bench - last night it didn't happen.
< OS, Just posted my views elsewhere. Yes City could have been given a penalty but the reality is that Hull got the opening goal then coasted to victory. Macgregor had 2 tame efforts to save al night. Hull were happy to let City huff and puff but easily coped with the powder puff offensives.
Didnt make it last night (work commitments) however read the match report and as suggested we lacked a cutting edge or a player to ignite us? Read Russ and to be honest he just summarised what has been suggested by this forum in the run up to this one, albeit this game being a "Barometer" of how far we have come, what about a reality check Russ? Anyway he expects a response on Saturday from the players. Lets just hope that Rotherham dont respond to their lose last night then Russ, Otherwise it could be back to the drawing board? Other than that well done guys on a positive showing that unfortunately did not result in a satisfactory outcome.
Ref was poor last night. City absolutely shone through in the 2nd half, we just couldn't produce anything. KWJ was out muscled in aerial attempts, Mason was far too slow and was caught by Hull's defense nearly every time. Positives to take from the game: Hull will definitely be there or there about come May, and had we played someone else, with a display like last night we would have won. Everyone played their socks off and deserved AT LEAST a point from it. I'm still optimistic and more than happy to stay under the radar. Fair play to the Hull fans that made the long trip.
Yes the ref was appalling, yes City gave it their all but just hopeful punts into the box and no end product against a team with some real class ensured a relatively easy away win.
The ball dropped kindly for Hull for their first goal and it just wouldn't for us despite all those corners and possession. Encouraging though and light years ahead of the football we were playing last year. We do lack cutting edge and we are far too slow/ one dimensional in our build up.
If there's one thing that Michael Dawson loves and thrives on it's high balls into the box. He won just about everything thrown up there or pushed KWJ so far out it made no difference. However, the times we dragged him out wide he was like a fish out of water. Trouble is we had no one to put in a telling cross and, even worse, no one on the end of it to challenge and put it away. If only KWJ had been at the back post to get on the end of his own cross after he made a great run to the byeline it could have been very different.
