https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leeds-united-smash-it-west-16644103 23 games on Sky last season. Why? Rotherham were broadcast just once. They were in Division 3 not that long ago. Their ego overtook them by changing their traditional blue shirts to white to replicate the great Real Madrid team of the 50’s. They won the FA Cup in 1972 (their only FACup) and the 1st division in 1992. What have they done since? They are an average Championship club. No different to the likes of Sheff Wed and Stoke/WBA etc They are entitled to dwell on Charles, Bremner, Giles, Lorimer etc but please Sky and the media just give it a rest.
Leeds are the biggest club in the Championship. Cant stand Leeds. But they are a big club with a brilliant away support. Compare their support when theyve been on the wrong side of beatings to our place to say the sh!t support of the Scousers and a number of others last season. Leeds are still a proper club and not a franchise hijacking a City. Brilliant the way they blew it last season though.
You can't blame the club for being on the box so much, it's the Sky viewing figures for their advertisers that drives the choice of games. It's all about marketing, outlay and return. As a big and important club historically if not right now, the theory is the audience attraction is far more likely to bump the viewing figures up than the so called "lesser" clubs. It must wrankle with others in the Championship as the TV revenues would be very welcomed as a boost to their normal income. Having said that, Leeds are on Sky 4 times up until the start of October and we are on 3 times in the same period. Looking through the selected games till then, West Brom are actually on 5 times - does that make them bigger than Leeds?
