I appreciate my valuations won't be market ones. They are obviously a bit personal and, in a lot of cases, what I'd grudgingly accept to lose the player and gain the money. Some players are so new I'm probably woefully undervaluing them. Some I've priced so high I know nobody would even consider the purchase. I really tweaked it here and there, but just looking at it I find I'm disagreeing with myself. Perhaps I should have put £50M [except for Sadio - £75M] on them all.

If you sold one player, you could probably arrive at a valuation....obviously enough to replace him (plus a bit). However, the price of a player (to Saints) would go up if others had already left...for example, Wanyama was never going once Schneiderlin had gone. I suspect that signing players on longer contracts suggest we are going to resist sales a bit more in the future.

No, that's fair enough. I take your point. I don't know really. How do you weigh the value to two completely different footballers who would play practically side by side if selected in their best positions.?

One is young and full of potential, and already he's a very good RB. The other is a pretty good, fairly sound CB who is quite versatile as well and can fill in at LB, RB if necessary, and do a pretty good defensive job there too.

Mane has to currently be priced at silly money - £41M

 

Surprised that Mane is being but up by a few in the £30 to £40 mm. Sterling went for £49mm. I prefer Sadio, he is youngish and will get better, it has to be an opening bit of £50mm before we let the receptionist put the call through to start s chat

 

Even at the fan's forum, when a fan said £50M to Les Reed, regarding Mane, he replied to the effect that £50M was undervaluing him. Yes, he was joking but only slightly. Mane's value [or anything for that matter] isn't about how good a player he is, but how many people want him and how much they're willing to pay. Given Saints scouting and recruitment abilities, if a club popped up with an opening bid of £50M I'd certainly start chatting.

Tough to estimate some of them really. Some clubs are willing to go bananas and pay more for a player than he's really worth. I've used the transfer fee we paid for them as a guideline, which makes sense to me. These are what I consider to be the actual values. Some of the players (arguably all of them other than Ramirez and perhaps Rodriguez) we don't want to sell other than at very high fees.

 

There are two values here: actual value and the price Saints will charge you...difference may be as high as +10...depending on how much we want said player and if you are Spurs.

 

Yeah, I kind of took it as "if it came to it, what would you sell them for" as opposed to "what are they probably worth in real footballing terms". Two very different things.
