This is something that I actually don't know the rule for. what would you say? If a player fouls a player attacking, the ball rolls on to another team mate, the ref gives advantage and says to play on... but the player who gets the ball turns out to be offside, linesman signals a bit late after the ref had given advantage. 1- Does the ref give a free kick for offside Or 2- does he go back to the foul, cancels the "play on" and gives a free kick to the attacking team. I think I just saw it on the chelsea game and the ref did the opposite of what I expected and went with the 1st option
I would say if the ball went to the offside player as a result of the foul then it should be taken back for the foul, but if the ball was already going there and the offside was going to be given then the free kick for offside is right (treat it as though a player is offside and a defender fouls him trying to get back).
but if the defender's tackle causes the ball to go to the other player then it shouldn't be offside ? yeh I guess it's more obvious than I thought.
When two players go up for a header, one behind the other (probably a defender) both have their backs to goal. What is the defender allowed to do? Lately it seems there is massive confusion about this rule. Almost every time the defender wins the header it is a foul, regardless of what he does. Sometimes the attacker will visibly back into him so much that the defender goes flying over the top of the attacker as he jumps for the ball and the ref almost always sides with the attacker. I genuinely don't know how the defender is allowed to win that kind of header.
Advantage has to be just that. There cannot be an advantage if the second player is not in a legitimate playing position.
But if the ball had already been played to the offside player then the offside was already an offence when the foul was committed on the other player, so even if the whistle hadn't been blown yet the offside should be given first, and the foul dealt with second. As it's already a freekick for offside you can't give a freekick for the foul, but you can give cards accordingly for dangerous tackles.
