    So to answer the question...

    It quite simply is "the beautiful game" (when played by proper clubs like Liverpool...none of this Poodles of War malarky).

    The question should be "Why would the English NOT love football, what kind of divvy wouldn't find it important?", the speed of thought of the great players, the tactical battles, the crunching tackles, the moments of pure tension that make you feel like your heart will burst out of your chest, the tribalism that makes you feel part of something special, the agony of the spoon over the bar from 5 yards out, the joy of the bulge (of the net).

    Football's ****ing great <ok>
