Leaving aside the players whose contracts expire on 30th June and who haven't re-signed yet, or we know have been released, what is the strength of our current squad? I only ask because I know some of you keep a very close eye on this sort of thing, whereas some of us get pretty lost. As far as I'm aware, these are the players who definitely have contracts stretching past 30th June. GK Elliott Sullivan Defence Solly Mambo Francis Doherty Midfield Wagstaff Hollands Pritchard Jackson (defence if necessary) McCormack Davisson Up Front BWP Benson Harriott Who have I missed? In 26 days, we play our opener against Welling United. That's a long time as far as the transfer market is concerned, but the blink of an eye in as far as putting a cohesive side onto a pitch and playing 90 minutes against an opposition who will be out to shoot us down.
I think signings of players who are under contract at other clubs will probably be announced on or shortly after 30th June. Any Bosmans/frees etc will be announced as and when. This will, I assume, be the case for players who are leaving at the end of their contract. I'm sure there's lots of work behind the scenes both in terms of both comings and goings...could be an interesting few weeks.
Sorry folks, I didn't mean to spread gloom and despondancy in the ranks - I was just struggling to remember who we'd actually got signed up. If I haven't really left anyone out, it is looking a bit thin in the ranks. You're right, Sir John and I suppose it's possible that some players could already be training with us prior to their release.
Dont belive we haven't got Semedo signed to a new contract but this mupet still at the club McCormack
Thanks FHB - do you think Popo might get a run out in the JPT this season? Seems an ideal opportunity, this competition, for blooding some of the youngsters but we so rarely take the opportunity.
Not just Popo, Warren as well. I rememeber one under-18's game when Popo received a high punt like Iwelumo used to get. He turned round and shouted "Keep it on the ***ing ground", so the current management team should be to his liking.
Really enthusiastic about the coming season, so I'm making plans to come down for the Welling game - that'll be the first time in ten years or so - and it'd be good to see all our professionals get time in that game.
Great shout Sir John. It says as much about expiring contracts here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13600908.stm
Heard Derby are interested in Michael Stewart... Anyone hoping he'll sign a new deal with us?? Another player out of contract with us
I don't want Stewart, he made it clear he was using us from the start and thinks he's better than CAFC. No need to be worried at this stage at all, especially considering the seemingly imminent signings of Hayes, Evina, possibly Legge, Cox, Okunghae and according to DVDDD, Danny Green
