This is something that's been doing my head in for a while now. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I see our current team as one that is young and inexperienced and as such, a pretty soft side. We tend to get undone by physical sides but do well when it's a contest of proper football. The only player I can think of in the squad who is even slightly dirty is McKenna, and that's just based on the odd over-enthusiastic tackle, he certainly isn't one who goes out to cheat or hurt people. There are a lot of teams and players who come to the KC with every intention of cheating. Not just in tackling but going down under any contact and messing about time-wasting and the like. You'd think our players would be a dream for referees because they just get on with the game and you never see any of them do anything dishonest. And yet, if I looked at some discipline stats I bet we'd seem like a right dirty side, nearly every game we seem to get multiple bookings, nearly all of which are completely unnecessary. We concede an enormous number of fouls every game, often for contact that doesn't even happen. It makes me wonder, what would happen if these refs used the same standards when taking a game with a really physical side? I mean, we all pretty much agree we missed McLean today. But why was he banned? His yellow card against Watford I remember was one such example of a stupid booking, it was actually the best tackle of the game. Equally his lates yellow at Derby, he was booked for having a shot ffs. If it wasn't for those completely unnecessary bookings, with McLean in the side we might have hammered Burnley today. So it's not like these things don't matter. There are sides whose game plan is based on beating everyone up. Allardyce has got West Ham playing with Diop sitting in front of the defence flooring everyone who goes near him, and I've made no secret on these boards of my dislike for the way Leeds play. But despite this, it seems like refs have got a big problem with our team of 4 foot players most of whom couldn't hurt other players if they wanted to. It's like the refs are all competing among themselves for how many stupid bookings they can give Hull players before someone notices It's becoming a bit of a joke now. It becomes a sideshow to all of our games and at this rate we're going to have a few more out with 5 bookings over the next few weeks. Is there something I'm missing? Why do refs feel the need to give so many stupid free kicks and particularly bookings against us? Rant over.
I completely agree, and the worst thing is people say that the little fouls that are given against us don't matter in the grand scheme of things but it does it disrupts our flow, it disrupts our team, as the banning of Mclean shows. I don't care about refs aslong as they are consistent, if they book our player if their's does the same thing book him. But their not, and i don't mean for just us i mean for every single team in the division.
Couldn't agree more, we seem to be unpopular with every ref and we've been screwed over in almost every game this season, they say these things balance out over a season, but I'm not seeing it.
Consistency today was particularly ****. The ref kept allowing fouls on our players and pointing at the ball as if to say the player had got the ball, but an actual tackle on the ball hadn't even taken place it was just someone being pushed over or hauled down, so the ref pointing at the ball just proved how unaware he was of what was actually going on. I completely agree with what you say about the little fouls mattering. They annoy me most because they get overlooked but it really does spoil our flow when we're trying to get going. How many free kicks did we concede today for actually being fouled? It was ridiculous.
But i am pretty sure those judging refs just ignore the little fouls that completely have as much affect as the big decisions. I just want one ref to be consistent, one all season, we have not had one this year, i don't mean all against us, some for us but just a ref who gives the same for both sides.
Dont Blame The Refs. There all bad but some are worse than others. The ref did not cost city the game against Burnley Just ourselves with sloppy play. McKenna now SUSPENDED 4 the saints game tuesday (5 bookings) but with McLean now available City i expect to go with 4 - 4 - 2 @ Saints.McLean back in for McKenna and the same bench. Rosinoir is one booking away from a suspension and Evans 2 i think. Its a lame excuse to blame the ref. Many teams saturday had worse decisions go against them which proved costly. Man utd for one. lol.
NO NO NO!!! That bench is ****ing awful! I know we have injuries, but come on, it's the most uninspiring bench in the league, bar none. It needs changing fast.
yes maybe but city dont have anyONE else fit. Waggy wont be ready until birmingham at the earliest. Not ideal but no choice really.
From the games i've been to this season only a couple of games have had decent referees. With the rest there has been no consistency, sometimes it has even affected both teams and not just ourselves which just spoils the game completely. We were perhaps fortunate to get the penalty at Barnsley, but other than that there seems to be a lot of decisions that have gone against us, be it stupid cards been given out for fair challenges or an offside goal been given against us. In the games were we have been blessed with sensible refereeing the games have flowed a lot better, the game isn't stopped for little challenges and the ref only gets invovled when he needs to. Hopefully these decisions will even themselves out other the season. And I see Mike Jones who would have refereed yesterday's game maaged to piss off both the Man United and Newcastle fans, how he managed to deem Ferdinand's challenge a penalty is crazy!
My god i finally agree with a post from the tickler. Stop whinging. Their third goal was fine the other player was offside, Rodrigues wasnt end of. Well taken goaL, can we buy him please.
I ****ing hate referees they're useless ****ing twats. I'm telling you they're all rugby fans who hate football and are intent in spoiling the game. Mike Riley is the biggest useless ****ing prick of the lot I'd love to drop a paving slab on his head or bury him neck deep in sand and put a hand grenade in his mouth.
The referee was ****e yesterday, but we were the ones to blame for our sorry downfall. There are other parallel threads on here about Pathetic and Ashbee which all touch on comments on here, we were pathetic to capitulate yesterday although I have seen many posts ignore the reasons why a). we had not put them to bed and b). we allowed them to totally dominate us for 15mins. It makes me laugh that we seem to hold ourselves up as some sort of classy team because we are not 'physical' and yet folk rightly extol the (playing) virtues of Ian Ashbee - I could never see Asbee, bad knee of not, allowing the opposition to strut their stuff like our kids do.
Not blaming the ref for the result (but he was ****). I'm bemoaning how many stupid cards we get that other teams don't when playing against us, and why there are such double standards against us when you'd think our players would be a dream for referees and it'd work the other way. I'd rather have a youngster like Emerton on the bench than 2 defenders, when are we going to need 2? It leaves us with no attacking options. Lol, I've dreamt this many times, but not seen it in years. I seem to have been a bit misunderstood. I'm not blaming anyone but ourselves for the result yesterday, I'm just saying it's pissing me off how many players we are going to miss just because of getting stupid bookings every game, sometimes for challenges that don't even happen. It seems like opposition players only get booked if they properly wipe someone out, but our players can get booked for any number of bizarre reasons.
