Luiz and Mata were never going to be Mourinho players.
Mata would never track back and help defend, and Luiz was far too reckless a defender for Mourinho's liking.
Mourinho has never been a fan of ball playing defenders who come out of their own half, which Luiz certainly was. A typical Brazilian defender, a good player, but not the kind Mourinho covets.

And Lukaku, well we have been over why he left so many times. It was unavoidable, he wanted something Jose wasn't prepared to promise him.

Lets not forget the money we got for them bought in players that won us the league last year. Can't recall many moaning about Lukaku and Mata when Costa, Fabregas and Matic were ripping it up.

Of those 3, I think only Lukaku would really add much at the moment. Luiz can be an absolute liability and prone to many a mistake (when we're playing well let alone now!!) and Mata wouldn't excel in this current set up at all.

I'm not for looking back. Our business model requires sales to fund buys for FFP reasons as well as developing youth on loan and selling some. Invariably some will do well elsewhere and it looks bad but it is what it is.

    This.
Agree that only Lukaku would possibly add something at the moment.
Luiz would have given Jose an aneurysm every time he dribbled across the halfway line, in possession of the ball, beating players.
Plus everytime he got caught out of position it was left to JT to mop up, and he has never been the quickest of cats, even in his prime. (Though his exceptional positional play usually more than made up for that).

We need 3 players in the summer, and we need to lose Falcao, Mikel, Costa, Ramires, Ake and JT (soz Cap).
Midfielder, a Centre back and a striker (or two).
No more AM's please Jose. Between Pedro, Willian, Hazard and Oscar, we have that covered!!!

I'd like us to keep JT myself. Not always as a starter but certainly an experienced leader around the club. We could do with a few more like him at the moment. I'd like to think that JT will finish his career with us. Neville, Giggs, Carragher style.

But it does look increasingly like we'll need a new spine. Stones was obviously ear marked as the defender and Pogba would be the dream scenario as the midfielder. Probably neither will happen though given the money it would require.

i understand why it happened, but i do wish we had the infrastructure/desire to integrate players such as lukaku.

looking back now, it was foolish to let him go as we did, and for what?

why couldn't have a world class prospect have 15 starts a season? would it have killed us? we persevered with torres for FOUR so what was the logic of pushing him and to a lesser extent KDB out of the club?

Looking back, objectively, we have been quite poorly run for some time and the (relative) success has blinded us to it.

Now the poop has hit the overhead, its very clear to see.

As soon as Jose was appointed I was like "Oh well, thats curtains for Luiz!!"
Never in a month of Sundays was that guy going to be a regular Centre back in a Jose Mourinho first XI, his style of defending by attacking is pretty much the antithesis of Jose's ethos.
