I don't know what the situation was in Red-Bull around that time regarding contracts an such ( I guess one of them had to eventually make way for Vettel), but I've heard others mention it once or twice so I think it was an option.

And seeing how they turned out I bet If he could go back he'd at least do 2 more seasons.

If David Coulthard had decided to stay in F1 with Red-Bull for 2009, 2010 and 2011, how do you think that would have gone?

I think competative machinery and the testing ban would have re energised him and he could of increased his win total and contended for a championship or 2.

Even If he had done so, in his final year he would have been about 3 years younger than Schu is currently.

I'd have loved to of seen him try anyway.

I think he would have won it in 2010. Vettel's car had problems all throughout the season which was the only reason why Webber kept up. Webber cracked under pressure which i dont think Coulthard would have done. He would definately have gotten wins though.

But by the end of his career in 2008, Mark was consistently beating him.

I don't really think he was that into it in 2008, not very motivated/energised.

A poor car and a lot of miles of testing to do and I don't think he was a big fan of going testing all the time.

Move on to 2009 and suddenly he has a car capable of at least podiums for the first 6 races and arguably the best car from Turkey onwards and is figthing for wins. Not too mention he has more time due to the test ban.

I think 2009 onwards would have fired him up.

Nah, I think even DC admitted he knew Seb was better than him after 2008 and was going to get kicked out regardless if he beat Webber or not. The guy was also 38, where as Seb was making leaps and bounds of his talent at the age of 21. Yeah maybe the 09 car would of given him the boost he needed like Webber got, but I dont think Coulthard was in RBR's plans after Monza 08.

Even before Monza it was clear he was better than Coulthard, the maturity of the win was just the icing on the cake, or in DC's case, the final nail in the coffin

He was well and truly beaten by Webber, so most likely would have been replaced by Vettel.

I've never really rated Coultard that highly, he was worthy of a seat but Webber was and would have been much better than him once the Red Bull started its dominance. DC would have picked up wins and plenty of podiums but I feel he would have been well of Webber or Vettel in 2009.

If DC would of stayed 3 more years he would of been trashed by his team mate just like his 3 last years

I must admit, I have often wondered this myself. As others have said, he was pretty trounced in 2008 and made several clumsy attempted passes that ended in contact. Nonetheless, I think he would've still been quite good in 2009, but not at the level of Vettel. Although he wouldn't have suddenly become a bad driver overnight, remember Barrichello returned to winning ways in '09 despite having some disappointing experiences in the previous few years.

It would've been interesting to see just what would've happened, though.
