Inspired by the Bluff post, I started with Bill Hicks, Apollo, Ry Cooder and The Simpsons. I'll add Terry Gilliam to that, and a young Heather Locklear. And that babe out of the original Bewitched in the 60's.

Feel free to add your own, You can't use an outbreak of VD amongst our women in WWII though. Try and be positive. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Try and keep the politics out of it. But talking of freedom, always have to laugh that one of the intellectual forces of the revolution was Thomas Payne, and every film and tv programme I've seen him in made by the Americans shows him as being American. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

    Propaganda?
    Friendly fire?

    Nah, that's a touch harsh. <doh>

I'd say Feynman was a great call. James Watson, Stephen J Gould, James Randi, Carl Sagan, Barbra McClintock, Sewell Wright, Ernst Mayer, George Gaylord Simpson.

Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy (early stuff), Chris Rock, Steven Wright.

Family Guy, South Park, The Big Bang Theory.

Mark Twain, Philip K. Dick, Robert Frost, TS Eliot ...

    ... Just some of my fav's. <ok>

Yeah, common mistake. Thomas Paine was born in England but spent most of his time in the states. The opposite of T.S. Eliot -- who is often mistaken for English, funnily enough.

Jesus was English - according to William Blake anyway. Sort of economic migrant, but he didn't come hidden in the back of a lorry. At least I don't think...
