Hi all, haven't been able to comment recently due to being immensly busy, by I should be commenting fairy often from now on, so its been a quiet last few weeks I presume?? Well, this is my view; All in all, there is not a lot that Bassini can do in the prevailing circumstances. Graham, to his great credit, made himself clear in stating that if a Premier league club came calling, he would want to talk to him, and who could blame him. £3.5m is ok, I think £4m would be nearer the mark, but it seemed no one apart from Swansea wanted to match the £3.5 million. Likewise with Buckley, I think we got good money at £1m. He was too inconsistent, couldn't last 90 minutes, and if you asked me the first person in the squad to flee at the sign of a ship sinking I would have said Buckley. We did well to stop Malky leaving for Burnley, but I think it was only going to be hard to keep him this summer. Cardiff could possibly at least double his salary, so who can blame him for leaving, especially as they are more ambitious then we are. The thing is that Cardiff seems a rather odd job to take. Expectations, after near-misses in the last couple of seasons in terms of promotion, will be sky high. However, most of the first team have left, so Malky would have to build a brand new squad. Can I see him lasting long? No I can't, it seems like the wrong job in the wrong place, but that's just my opinion. All in all, the same thing happened to us in 2009, where out of the first team we lost Williamson, MacAnuff, Cork, Smith, Rasiak, Priskin, not to mention Rodgers. Especially with the sell-on fee from Ashley Young, we should have some money to reinvest. Just as in 2009 when the likes of Cleverly, Lansbury, Graham and martin Taylor come in, I expect the new manager to use loanees, the odd free transfer and one or two players who would require a transfer fee. It will be a struggle, but no matter I will be sticking with the Golden Boys.
emiatss, you can always be relied on to put things in perspective and make sure we stay calm. Great post, as ever, and you'd get a rep point from me if the site would let me give it!
Welcome back Emiatss, a fair summary of what has happened. However we must now look to the future, and I think Gary Waddock at Wycombe could be a fair shout.
That's a good shout Elixir, from what I've seen at Late Kick Off he has gained much respect at Wycombe. I was going to suggest Mark Warburton, didn't realise he left months ago!
I just hope our Board are not adopting a "wait and see" attitude but are actively drawing up a realistic short list. Ig MM goes we need a replacement quickly
