Valencia was completely and utterly appalling today, carrying on from the rest of the season where he's been abysmal. Gave the ball away every single time he had possession of it, and as for his attacking/wing play..it's non-existent. Has he forgotten how to get the ball out of his feet and get in a race with the opposing full-back? If he doesn't pick up between now and the end of the season then he can leave.

As for van Persie, all the confidence of the last 2 or 3 seasons seems to have evaporated. Now hasn't scored in 6 games, and doesn't even look a threat. Had numerous chances against Madrid, took none of them. He needs to pull his finger out too.

Quick mention for de Gea. Incredible save, the only reason we're still in the draw for the next round.

Valencia just seems to have no confidence any more, and his pace seems to have dropped right off.

RVP I can understand - after such an awesome first half of the season he was bound to get a bit of fatigue. And he did only get to play the 2nd half today, when the entire team played like ****.

I would probably keep them both off the pitch for a little while. RVP has been looking burnt out and Valencia, well if you've got nothing nice to say...

Could be that there is no competition for that place, no Nani or Young to take his place, Valencia has been a starter for us mostly but kind of a non-starter.

Possibly. He may have tried to put on more bulk after his injury - plenty of sportsmen try to bulk up in the theory that more muscles will prevent more injuries. He didn't seem to struggle last year, but if he's done more work over the summer it could have hurt his pace.

Aye, we could have done with a penalty in the last ten minutes today.

I reckon we may go in for him in the summer - Suarez and Webb must be the dream team <ok>

tell me, what did Suarez do against Man Utd, Man City the top two teams in the premier league? Nothing while Van Persie scored against Man city, and all the top teams in the top 6.

just because he's scoring against teams who are below table doesn't make him better, he needs to score against big teams too.

indeed both players form are not that good, menwhile while RVP finishing is below bar since some weeks but at least his touches and play are still sublime, but Valencia form is most shocking one .. utterly rubbish.. from our best players to one of the worst on the pitch within 1-2 month

Valencia has been useless all season, and RVP has been pretty much useless since the start of the year.

The player I feel sorry for is Hernandez, a cracking header today, in his first start in yonks yet he's subbed by SAF. Hernandez deserves his chance in the team ahead of RVP:biggrin:

I feel sorry for Hernandez, not getting many opportunities recently, when he does, he scores and still gets subbed. One of my favourite players at Utd but im starting to get worried he will want regular first team football and ask for a move. Only so long a player of 24/25 will be happy being a bench warmer, especially with his talents.

A contracersial opinion I know but we've never needed RVP as Hernandez is as good, if not better.

RVP has been abit of a half season wonder, and really doesn't deserve POTY. Bale is miles superior to RVP:biggrin:

agreed, i believe RVP is a little burnt out, i think he needs break, like we need to rest him for a game, i was glad when he was on the bench today and i was not hoping for him to start today because he needs break.

RVP is a world clas striker and tbh in the last few games, we didn't really produce much chances for him too, im sure when he gets a chance he will score and he will be scoring goals again. Even though like you said, he might nto be scoring goals recently but his play is still great.

Valencia on the other hand looks like his form dipped, i think once Nani is back from his latest injury which Sir Alex said is not serious, we should start Nani who looks like has found his form again and Ashley Young and Gigs sometimes too on the wings and drop Valencia for few games, let him fight back for the starting spot back and that could make him getting back his form.

Sorry but I think you've gone too far there! While RVPs form has dropped off recently, the first half the season he was unplayable. He is a better overall player to hernandez with equal finishing and movement which is hernandez's best assets. Hernandez is quicker though which is better for running in behind.

Whilst the referee didn't do us any favours in either leg against Madrid, RVP had plenty of opportunity's to score, and win us the tie, but he bottled it on the big stage, just as he does for his country.

The way Hernandez is being treated is disgraceful, and if we're not careful we will lose him. He is the best striker we have, and his goals to minutes proves that, yet he rarely gets a look in, and to sub him off yesterday, despite having already scored was a poor decision:biggrin:

While I agree Hernandez should be getting much more playing time due to the fact he almost always scores, I have disagree with him being the best striker we have. He may be the natural goal scorer we have, but he doesn't bring nearly as much to the rest of the game as Rooney or Van Persie. He won't set up nearly as many goals as the other two, and while he does work quite hard off the ball, he isn't defensively as good as RVP or Rooney.

I think both Rooney and Chicarito will both bring in 20+ goals this season, and RVP will pick up his form and hit somewhere close to 30. That'll be almost 70 goals between three players. <yikes>
