He ( she / it / Resurgam* ) usually gets at least the same punishment as the instigator ! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65269502 I am puzzled that neither participant is being punished by the FA....As I have claimed - if the incident occurred during 'live' play, the minimum action that the referee would take is to show both parties a yellow card........and, often, the player who 'defends' him/her/itself, would be the only one shown a card!....... .....so - why hasn't the FA taken action - to prevent this being a precedent ?....Didn't Mitrovic get a lengthy ban for doing not much more than Robertson --- who quite clearly was 'in the linesman's face.'... I have absolutely no doubt that the Liverpool player was unpleasant - and verbally aggressive. His body language suggested that, if the incident had occurred in a Cumbrian nightclub, the linesman would have been given a 'Glasgow kiss' by Robertson... ....and although I have a lot of sympathy for the flag waver, he chose to perform a pre-emptive strike - which is not in his remit.........Don't get me wrong - If I was the linesperson in question, I think that Robertson would have been on the floor! -- and I would expect to be watching the next few games instead of officiating (( perhaps it might improve my shirt-pulling detection rate ! )) As usual, the FA have proved their inconsistency in this matter...For me, the sensible thing would have been for both Robertson and the lino to have been given a ban - but with Robertson's punishment to be at least x3 that of the 'official.' (( I have always thought that the instigator should receive a greater punishment. )) Personally, I don't think that the FA should have done nothing...It sends the wrong message - and creates a precedent in future incidents - where discipline and sanctions can be measured by the FA doing nothing to promote civility. * Resurgam - I apologise if my 'wokeness' offends you.
Robertson shouldn't have even been on the pitch for the incident to happen, far to often players are getting away with overstepping the mark, screaming in a lino's face, then carrying on the altercation at the half-time whistle, he got what he deserved, a swift elbow. Brilliant summary here... You got to love Roy Keane
When I was refereeing (many years ago) if a player in local league laid a hand on any official in an agressive manner, was atomatically banned from playing for life in that league. It would be great if that happened.
